Blink 182 - I Miss You

Blink182 is one of the greatest garage rock bands of all time. Not only did they put together some high quality music (as evidenced in this song) but they were also fun and silly and could make you laugh. And believe me, that is just as important as the high brow stuff. Dysentery Gary and The Party Song still make me laugh after all of these years. Sometimes I get a little bit tired of everyone trying to say something (and failing a lot of the time) and just want to put on something that’s fun. So here’s to fun. It’s Friday – go out and take off your shirts and shoes and jackets and enjoy!

Blink 182 - I Miss You

(I miss you miss you)
Hello there the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in backround of the morgue
The unsespecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
And we’ll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we’ll wish this never ends
We’ll wish this never end

Where are you and I’m so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness comes creeping on so haunting everytime
And as I stared I counted the webs from all the spiders
catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
stop this pain tonight

Don’t waste your time on me you’re already the voice inside my head(6x)

I miss you miss you(6x)

VAST- Lost

i though about posting ‘touched’ instead, but i decided to go a different route. i took a chance and assumed that most people hadn’t heard this song. i really enjoy it. the music combines airy, ethereal sounds with a (somewhat) driving rhythm. it’s a combination i’m quite fond of. i particularly enjoy the part where the singers says ‘i need to get back home.’ the change there adds a nice element to the song. it’s not the happiest of songs, but i think it’s a good one. enjoy.

There’s no angels here
Just a sun to light the way
To places where my friends
Turn to strangers

Oh my lover

On a long long empty road
Ooh sweet lover, I got lost

There’s no angels here

Just a light to lead the way
There’s no innocence
Only strangers

Oh my lover

On a long long empty road
Oh sweet lover, I got lost
and I
I need to get back home

Stacy Epps- Floatin’

i’m listening to this song, wiggling around ridiculously. i was enjoying myself. i was groovin’. yeah, i said it! groovin’! ungh! knowwhati’msayin’?? then, guess what. she started rapping! i was like, “ohhhhhhhhhhh snap!” it’s a two-for-one! i always like it when i get a deal. as usual, i hope you like this. it’s funny because i planned to write about a completely different song. i changed course after i heard this. maybe i’ll post the other song later. we shall see. but, press play and enjoy yourselves. and if you feel the need, break out your finest early 90s-smooth-ol’ skool-laid back-chillaxin’ dance. it might have a little dust on it, but whatever. float on.

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock And Roll

Just take those old records off the shelf
I’ll sit and listen to ‘em by myself
Today’s music aln ‘t got the same soul
I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Don’t try to take me to a disco
You’ll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes I’ll be late for the door
I like that old time rock’n’ roll

Still like that old time rock’n’ roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Won’t go to hear them play a tango
I’d rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There’s only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock ‘n’ roll

Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I’m old-fashioned, say I’m over the hill
Today’ music ain’t got the same soul
I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Still like that old time rock’n’ roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

law

I think that I might have gone a little crazy trying to figure this one out. Apparently Lee Ann Womack recorded two versions of this song - the original country version and another more poppy version. They even have different groups contributing background vocals. I was really confused when I found the version I wasn’t used to hearing.

So…I’m not sure which version this is but I still enjoy it. It’s really just a lovely song with some of the best lyrics of our generation. So I hope you enjoy and get a dance or two in.

-CaliDre

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake
But it’s worth making
Don’t let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

The Isley Brothers- Harvest for the World

i thought today would be a good day to post this. it’s apt. things aren’t going that well in many different areas. you can immediatley think about the people of haiti, the philippines, and many in new orleans. there are things to be grateful for, though. celebrate the good things but continue to reach out to those in need. enjoy.

All babies together, everyone a seed
Half of us are satisfied, half of us in need
Love’s bountiful in us, tarnished by our greed
Oh, When will there be a harvest for the world (yeah, yeah, yeah)

A nation planted, so concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go, greater grows the pain
And far too many, feelin’ the strain
Oh, When will there be a harvest for the world (yeah-yeah, yeah)

Gather every man, gather every woman
Celebrate your lives, give thanks for your children (oh!)
Gather everyone, gather all together
Overlooking none (Overlooking none), hopin’ life gets better for the world (yeah, yeah, oh)

Dress me up for battle, when all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price, come home with the least
And nation after nation, turning into beast
Oh, When will there be a harvest for the world

Yeah, yeah
When will there be
I wanna know now now
When will there be (harvest for the world)
A harvest (harvest for the world)
When will there be (harvest for the world)
A harvest (harvest for the world)

Witchdoctor feat. Cool Breeze- Georgia Plains (Holy Grounds)

this song was on the album ‘a s.w.a.t. healin’ ritual’ which came out in 1998. witchdoctor was and is a member of the dungeon family. he’s been featured on tracks with outkast, goodie mob, and others. he has a hilarious verse on the song ‘mamacita.’ in it he says:

in the microwave, i’ve got your favorite stouffer’s
lasagna
that’s how much i want ya

he also has had a few hits himself, the biggest of which was probably the song holiday (also on ‘s.w.a.t.’). they may have been more regional than national, but, suffice to say, he was a known figure in atlanta. this here is my favorite song on the album. it features another dungeon family hero, cool breeze. it’s a great combination. enjoy.

My choice was the streets, kinda came natural to me
So i’m fishin’, trouble comes
I’m dishin’ out some shots from the doctor’s gun
Got me trapped in this world under this moon and sun
Shit aint fun or funny, fuck a smile, i’ts ‘bout collectin’ money
I’m tryin’ to take better care of my body this quarter
Docter say drink more water, but Bacardi got you bent in this bitch
Life sometimes is like steppin’ in some fuckin’ horse shit
Seven years of tears in this game
Made me one of the smallest predators on this Georgia plain
In the fields, in the hills, never picked no cotton
It’s the nigga wit that golden trigga
I’m seein’ more planes in the sky at night
Look like UFO’s, think they transportin’ dem kilo’s
The drug cartel has swelled out of proportion
On the corner everyday we indorsin’
The street life is my life, scratchin’ to stay on top
I’m rappin’ it for my block, Atlanta

You betta have some game in yo’ veins
You betta learn this southern slang

Cool Breeze:
I’m hearin’ rumors about what yo’ clique gone do
I stepped up like it was cool and confronted his crew
I said “Now which one of y’al suppose to take me to school?”
If you see a lame nigga, nigga take his shoes
I’m from Eats Point, Atlanta, we dont fight by rules
You dont know Cool Breeze or lil Freddy Calhoun
In this place, the dirty south, we’ll hit ya for a lick
Sell you dreams, nice things, and it be a box of bricks
Most haters, imitators, think they know Cool Breeze
Aint jack but a rat on my East Point cheese
I know it iritates yo’ ears, how I chop these trees
You nothin’ but a lame ‘round these EPV’s
All my enemies who don’t know what they jumped in
If the doctor came through once, he’ll come through again
And when look and he ask me where everybody is
They didnt believe in your return so they ran for the hills
And I still got that same pain in my chest
My perscription stress, no cess, and wear a Teflon vest
And these niggas still try and test
Dont even know me or these Georgia plains
Boy these grounds are HOLYYYY!!!!!

Santigold- Hometown Glory (Adele Cover)

santigold

I hate reblogging songs. I really do. But as I scrolled the dashboard today, M-IN-E had posted this track. I gave it a listen (I had to - I love all things Adele) and can I just say….DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPENESS!!! This junk is fire and it is my duty to spread it to the masses.

So…thank you M-IN-E and I’m sorry for swinging on your jock strap so hard today. But uber-thanks for bringing my attention to this song. My love for Santigold has just grown like the Grinch’s heart…3 sizes in one day.

Enjoy!

-CaliDre

Santigold- Hometown Glory (Adele Cover)

I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
And missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
“Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I could call?
No, and thank you, please madam, I ain’t lost, just wandering”

Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, ooh, the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders and now

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love it to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, ooh, the people I’ve met

Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders of my world
Of my world, yeah, of my world, of my world, yeah

Human League - Don’t You Want Me

HL

This song is a standard selection for any reputable 80s party. It has everything you can ask of a quality 80s song - synthesizers, angst and catchy lyrics.

I was watching Center Stage for the first time a few nights ago and…I don’t know why but this song reminds me of the movie so much. Was it playing in the background of some scene? Or did I just really think it fit in?

Who knows? I like this song though so I decided to post it today! There’s also a really fun mash up floating around out there called Don’t You Want My Bad Romance featuring the Lady Gaga hit. Check it out here. Just goes to show you the 80s will NEVER go away!

Enjoy!

Human League - Don’t You Want Me

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you’ve got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don’t forget it’s me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

(Chorus:)
Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know I can’t believe it when I hear that you won’t see me
Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know I don’t believe you when you say that you don’t need me
It’s much too late to find
You think you’ve changed your mind
You’d better change it back or we will both be sorry

Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh
Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then I knew I’d find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we have had have been such good times
I still love you
But now I think it’s time I lived my life on my own
I guess it’s just what I must do

(Chorus)

Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh
Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh

(Repeat four times and fade)

Doves- Spellbound

doves

This song is my favorite off the new album, ‘Kingdom of Rust’. There is a yearning in their music that mirrors my own. It’s a sonic, heavily layered sound, with guitars and vocals that I can’t get enough of. I have to thank my college roommate for introducing me to doves (lost souls era) as well as other albums beyond the radio and shattering the musical microcosm I’d been trapped in for much too long. It was one of the best things that could have ever happened. Well done, Doves.

those eyes they transmit
all your loving
echos light into dark hearts
i would swear I’ve seen this, left beside me
your eyes they hypnotize

she keeps me here so spellbound
her love pulls me near to stranger ground
I’ve lost my mind there
this dark magic mirror, spellbound

a heart-shaped face
with words as cold as stone
i can’t believe this is my fate

she raised your head
now the night, it’s coming down
i accept this fate i accept my love you won’t be long
you keep me here so spellbound
your love pulls me near to sacred ground
i lost my mind there
this dark magic mirror, spellbound
and i can’t leave now
leave her now (x2)

she keeps me near so spellbound
her love pulls me near to stranger ground
i lost my mind there
this dark magic mirror, spellbound (x2)
so spellbound (x3)

Soul II Soul- Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)

i feel a little guilty because i’ve posted this song elsewhere, but i feel it’s worth doing. i used to hear it all the time on the radio back in the day. for that reason, and because i like it, i am always reminded of yesteryear when i hear it. it takes me to a good place. it’s a good song, too. i hope you enjoy it.
