Benoit Pioulard - Together & Down

Thomas Meluch uses his Benoit Pioulard moniker as an all-purpose artistic outlet for his work as a writer, photographer and obviously musician. His album Precis was on one of those other-listeners-bought lists so I gave into the pressures of my fellow online shoppers; conformed to their purchasing habits and checked it out. What’s great about Meluch/Pioulard is how he incorporates the sounds of his field recordings seamlessly into his music to create an amazing ambiance and atmosphere around his vocals. The song above supposebly incorporates the sounds of water running and a garbage truck idling. The first song on the album is a crescendo of sounds that build and then drop off into Together & Down. It’s the first time we hear his voice on this record and he begins by telling us about his death. That’s folktronica for you.
Lyrics:
Oh bury me & sing to the seeds
Oh bury me & sing to the seeds
At least I can’t say I didn’t hazard a try
To embellish my joys
There will be no moment of silence when I die
Only a moment of noise
Oh carry me & we’ll swing through the reeds
Oh carry me & we’ll swing through the reeds
When they stand round my grave, maybe they’ll say,
“He sang when he swayed & laughed when he prayed”
As they file past the gate
All wrapped up in faith
Having questioned their fate
They will try to be late
