Yo-Yo Ma - Prelude, Cello Suite 1 (Bach)

I’ve wanted to post this for quite some time. I think cello is by far the most beautiful instrument around and nothing captures its beauty more then Bach’s 1st Cello Suite. Of course it is much longer then 3 minutes so I thought I’d at least post its very famous Prelude for you.

Yo-Yo Ma is perhaps easily the most famous famous cellist, dare I say, ever. He’s a prodigy and was playing for presidents at 5 years old…which means he’s played for just about everyone from JFK to Obama. That’s pretty incredible on its own. His range and versatility have made him a classical superstar and he’s done everything from bluegrass to traditional Chinese music to baroque to minimalist. He even played on one of my favorite film scores, Memoirs of a Geisha. Maybe I’ll post the Chairman’s theme soon. Meanwhile, enjoy this amazing piece!
