KT Tunstall - Miniature Disasters

KT Tunstall, full name Kate Victoria, is a folk/rock singer-songwriter hailing from Scotland. I came across her when I saw her video for Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, which can be found here. Part of what makes KT such a great person to listen to is that she’s consistent. I have nearly all of her albums and each album doesn’t disappoint at all. When you hear her sing, she sounds like she’s genuinely giving it her all and she writes her own lyrics, dishing out meaningful and sometimes clever songs. My personal opinion is that she’s underrated as a music artist, but I suppose that’s good because if that wasn’t the case than maybe she wouldn’t be what she is now (sometimes fame can saturate a music artist’s work).
One of my favorite songs by KT is Miniature Disasters, coming off her debut album, Eye to the Telescope. The song is essentially about not letting life’s little problems, or “miniature disasters” get the best of you. You won’t always get what you want, but that’s a part of living, and you have to move on despite that.
I don’t want to be second best
Don’t want to stand in line
Don’t want to fall behind
Don’t want to get caught out
Don’t want to do without
And the lesson I must learn
Is that I’ve got to wait my turn
Looks like I got to be hot and cold
I got to be taught and told
Got to be good as gold
But perfectly honestly
I think it would be good for me
Coz it’s a hindrance to my health
I’m a stranger to myself
Miniature disasters and minor catastrophoes
Bring me to my knees
Well I must be my own master
Or a miniature disaster will be
It will be the death of me
I don’t have to raise my voice
Don’t have to be underhand
Just got to understand
That it’s gonna be up and down
It’s gonna be lost and found
And I can’t take to the sky
Before I like it on the ground
And i need to be patient
And i need to be brave
Need to discover
How i need to behave
And I’ll find out the answers
When i know what to ask
But i speak a different language
And everybody’s speaking too fast
Miniature disasters and minor catastrophoes
Bring me to my knees
Well I must be my own master
I’ve got to run a little faster
I need to know I’ll last if a little
Miniature disaster hits me
It could be the death of me
