this song is the story of my life. also, the reason behind my mini sabattical from dailycrack. i went through a rough period with a ridiculous amount of work that kept me from posting to the blog, but now i’m back… hopefully. but besides the mere fact that i work a lot and really hard, this song also reminds me of a lot of situations i have been in. my work has constantly gotten in the way. i’ve literally sang this song to one of my past girlfriends.
the isley brothers are one of my favorite groups. ron isley has one of the best voices in the game to me. he can sing in a lot of different styles and the group has inspired generations of musicians. they are purely legendary. i mean the group was formed all the way back in 1957 and has performed in some form all the way until 2006. can you imagine. ‘twist and shout’ was first done properly by the isley brothers and then inspired thet beatles and was one of the first songs that they saw some success with, was an isley brothers cover. jimi hendrix also used to tour with the isleys. jimi’s work also inspired ernie isley, a HIGHLY underrated guitar player (check out the album 3+3).
‘work to do’ gives you a small taste of their style, but is nowhere near the epitome of their catalog. so if your head nods a little to this i encourage you to check out some more of their work and prepare to fall in love.
