a friend and mine and i used to commute to high school in his car each morning. to put it mildly, his musical tastes and mine diverged sharply. he would play album after album of music i could barely stand. over time, i began to open up a bit to the music he’d play. he’s the person who introduced me to tool, the smashing pumpkins, rage against the machine, and other acts i grew to appreciate. he’s also the person who had me listening to stuck mojo, icp, and other, even less reputable acts. sublime was one of the few groups we agreed on. i’d never heard of ska music, had never heard of sublime, and had never heard any of their songs. the first time i was exposed to them, though, i dug them. it’s a shame things ended the way they did, particularly when it seems the band was on the verge of becoming huge. so, this is another one from the memory banks. enjoy.
