Billy Preston - Double o’ Soul

Billy Preston has a hell of a history as an artist.  He has collaborated with some of the biggest names ever in popular music, but to many today remains an unknown.  This list includes Mahalia Jackson, James Cleveland, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Nat King Cole, Little Richard, Eric Burdon, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, King Curtis, Sammy Davis Jr., Sly Stone, Aretha Franklin, the Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, Mick Jagger, Richie Sambora, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Most popular of all of these is his relationship with the Beatles.  He is the only artist ever to receive an album credit with the group officially for his work on the song “Get Back.”

This clip comes from the beginning of the documentary “Before the Music Dies.”  If you haven’t seen it, it is excellent and explains a lot about the decay of popular music throughout the years and music’s hope for the future.  You can check it out embedded in the post below.
