Bonnie Tyler - Holdin’ Out For A Hero

Bonnie Tyler

I love the 80s. I love the clothes, hair and cars that were so awful they were great. I love the cheesy movies. And I DEFINITELY love the music. Footloose had one of the best soundtracks back then and it is still one that I listen to frequently now. Its just so much damn fun.

So…in honor of “I Love the 80s” I thought I’d add a few fun facts today.

Bonnie Tyler is Welsh and was born Gaynor Hopkins

Her distinctively husky voice is the result of her speaking against doctors orders while recovering from surgery on her vocal chords (listen to her single “Lost in France” and you’ll hear the difference)

Even though she is known in the US as an 80s singer, she has been quite active in Europe, releasing 15 albums from 1977 - 2005

Won Best Internation Female Artist at RSH Gold Awards in 1994

Record companies initially wanted to market her as a coutry singer

Madonna auditioned for the role of the preacher’s daughter in the film

That’s it for now. Enjoy!

Bonnie Tyler - Holdin’ Out For A Hero

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life (larger than life)

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night

Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear there is someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
