AR Rahman - Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack)
Tumblr decided to screw me over and delete my last post so here is a quicker version of the last one.
In undergrad, I dated this Indian guy from Goa for a while. I’m half black half latina. Let’s just say it didn’t go over well with his folks. Well…anyway…we dated for a while and I would go to a lot of Indian functions around campus with him. I went to Bhangra shows and Diwali…one of our friends bought me a sari from Bahrain…I ate naan and samosas and curry. You get the idea.
So…in the course of all of that time I got to listen to alot of Bhangra and Bollywood music and its been something I’ve continued to enjoy. I’ve wanted to post some Bhangra onto DC for a while and its even something I’ve spoken to Karishma (blogger for Grace Notes) about the one time we spoke. I had no idea what to post but then I FINALLY got around to seeing Slumdog Millionaire this summer and decided that Jai Ho definitely needed to go up.
Only one problem. Everyone had the version with the damned Pussycat Dolls in it. Ugh. It took me forever to get a hold of this version and I think you’ll enjoy it.
The actual song is song by several artists…one for each dialect spoken on the song I believe. AR Rahman is the composer of the soundtrack which is why I just listed him for today. He actually collaborated with MIA on several songs for it so its got a nice lil mix to it. If you havn’t already, check out the movie AND the soundtrack - its good stuff. Enjoy!
