Maria Callas- Ah! non credea mirarti

i have a thing for opera singers. i have a thing for this opera singer in particular. it started with the movie ‘philadelphia.’ in it, tom hanks’ character listens a version of ‘la mamma morta’ sung by ms. callas. it continued many years later when i went to see the movie ‘callas forever’ in a local theater. that led to a search for more arias and an interest in opera singers. i actually made a list of those i liked best (somehow i managed to lose it!). i went to youtube and listened to singer after singer and read about their strengths and weaknesses on various sites. i watched the youtube opera competitions where users post videos of performers singing the same aria, then vote on whose version is best. i like ms. callas because of how expressive her voice is. from what i’ve read (and heard), her voice was not as strong or as clear as it was when she was younger, but i enjoy the performance anyway. she still manages to find the appropriate emotion and convey it exquisitely. i hope you’ll give it a listen. enjoy.
