Marvin Gaye- I Want to Come Home for Christmas

this is one of my favorite holiday songs. it barely qualifies as a holiday song, honestly. it’s a bit of a downer. he was inspired to write the song by soldiers who were fighting in vietnam. i’m posting it because he’s at his soulful, mournful best, and because it’s appropriate. there are men and women serving in afghanistan and elsewhere, and i’m sure many of them would love to be home with their families. so, yeah, this time of year is typically a happy one, and it’s fun to listen to music inspired by those feelings, but it’s important to think of those whose selflessness and service prevents them from fully partaking in the experience.
