Shafiq Husayn feat. Fatima- Lil Girl
the other night i began to search for a new r&b artists to listen to. i wanted to find someone soulful, someone who could sing well, and someone…different. i wanted to find someone like erykah. someone like jill. someone like bilal. someone like muhsinah. i wasn’t looking for a clone. i wasn’t looking for a specific sound. i wanted something different. i appreciate the artists i listed because they are interesting. the point is, i wanted someone willing to do something a little different. i qualify that by saying different to me. most of the r&b music i hear is like thin gruel. it isn’t bad, it isn’t all that great either. it fades into the background. i found a few close calls. now, i found several great vocalists, but that wasn’t all i wanted. brittany boscoe came close. i thought sarah anne webb did, but i was wrong. geno young warrants further exploration. but this song and these artists hit the mark. shafiq husayn provided dynamic and engaging music, and fatima provides simple, but great vocals. i’ve listed to a few other things and am interested in what i’ve heard. if any of you have any recommendations, let me know. i’ll happily check them out. as always, i hope you enjoy this.
