Hey You Lazy Bastard…. Listen to More Music
In the spirit of positivity I have decided to stop writing, testifying, verbalizing, and philosophizing about crappy/shitty/garbage music. For far too long I have trashed people’s works of “arts” for not fitting my belief of excellency. I mean we can’t hold everything to the standards of Stevie Wonder, Prince, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Big Daddy Kane, Biggie, etc. I mean if excellency was the only thing to listen to we would likely run out of shit to bang. Well… if like most we only listened to the music that was spoon fed to us. Without thought we constantly lower our standards so that we can listen to the bullshit on the radio. Pieces of music that only have a 1-month shelf life. Pieces of music that you only want to hear while shaking your ass or watching someone shake their ass in the club. I mean we literally force ourselves to listen and “love” shitty music because we are too fucking lazy to listen to an artist that we never heard before. Music recordings are timeless, yet we won’t go listen to something that came out 20 or 10 years ago. Shit… these days in our blogging society something that came out 3 months ago is old because we always want to be able to say “nigga you ain’t up on this” © Kanye West.
However, I do feel the need to educate and be an evangelical to the masses that have put black music into a t-pain, beyonce, kanye west, and lil wayne box in the year 2008. While these artists have made some good tracks; I say to you all LISTEN TO MORE MUSIC. So often have we forced ourselves to praise wackness and wackness will beget more and more wackness thus lowering our expectations and our standards. I mean go back and listen to some real classics and compare them to the new “classics.” Without using examples I will simply say you cannot call an album a classic after having it for 1 month. A classic is something that will blow your mind everytime you grab it for years and years. So I plead to you all open up your damn ears, look around the internet, listen to podcasts, and listen to some more damn music. Trust me when you begin looking you won’t even have time to force yourself to listen to the crap that many artists just toss out there knowing that their lazy market will buy their music/image regardless of how terrible it is.
