Larry Young’s Fuel - Turn Off the Lights

So the request today was Basement Funk and immediately I thought of this song. This one of those funky ass songs you would play under a red light in someone’s basement. I would put this song on right at the end when everyone is trying to find themselves a friend. It’s just a slow sexy song featuring the sultry vocals of Laura “Tequila” Logan. Unfortunately, I could not find any pictures of her, but based on the vocals… I want her. The song has a hot bass line throughout, with Larry Young absolutely killing the keys throughout with a level of electro funk that I don’t know if anyone has topped since this album came out in 1975.
Larry Young was a pioneer with the Hammond B-3 during his Blue Note recording years. Allmusic. com stated that “If Jimmy Smith was “the Charlie Parker of the organ,” Larry Young was its John Coltrane.” I had a couple Jimmy Smith albums due to my love of the Hammond B-3, but I do not have any of Larry Young’s earlier Blue Note album. I was actually introduced to this song by an ex who found it on giantstep.net. Enjoy it, love it, and let the song take over your mind body and soul.
Also the LP is on sale at dustygroove for the low, check it out.
