Jeck Buckley- Mojo Pin (live)![]()
‘mojo pin’ appeared on the album ‘grace’ by singer jeff buckley. i like the studio version of this song, but i decided to blog about the live version because of how powerful and expressive and beautiful buckley’s voice is. more than that, the songs stands out because the power and grace are interwoven. one moment he uses a soft, lilting falsetto and the next he releases and deep, primal scream. it feels as though he is overtaken by the obsession about which he sings. even further, the song is amazing technically. he was wonderful control over his voice. he’s able to transition from one end of the vocal spectrum to another with ease. sometimes it seems he doesn’t need to breathe. all those elements (as well as the music) combine to make this an impressive and captivating song. i can only imagine what the audience felt seeing and hearing him perform this song. the thought gives me chills.
I’m lying in my bed
The blanket is warm
This body will never be safe from harm
Still feel your hair, black ribbons of coal
Touch my skin to keep me whole
Well, if only you’d come back to me
If you laid at my side
I wouldn’t need no Mojo Pin to keep me satisfied
Don’t wanna weep for you, don’t wanna know
I’m blind and tortured, the white horses flow
The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow
Black beauty, I love you so
Precious, precious silver and gold And pearls in oyster’s flesh
Drop down we two to serve and pray to love
Born again from the rhythm screaming down from heaven
Ageless, sageless and I’m there in your arms
Don’t wanna weep for you, don’t wanna know
I’m blind and tortured, the white horses flow
The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow
Black beauty, I love you so
The welts of your scorn, my love, give me more
Send whips of opinion down my back, give me more
Well it’s you I’ve waited my life to see
It’s you I’ve searched so hard for
-the skinny miracle
