HEAVy - My Little Song

HEAVy is another post neo-soul type groups that has had a strong buzz since around 2005.  Unforuntately, they still remain relatively unknown and the mainstream has not picked them up…. like most good music these days.  Heavy first came out with a real nice self-titled 8 song EP.  I lived and breathed that EP for a while, but one of my favorites from them was the Jazzanova remix for the song Wonderlove.  That was one of those songs that i used to sneak in on a playlist on an unsuspecting crowd during small parties and get togethers that kept everyone’s head’s nodding and body moving.  They even have a video for one of the songs, ‘fire,’ from the EP that you can see here.

The song for today is featured on their first full length album JazzMoney$$.  ‘My Little Song’ has such a classic 90s r&b feel to me, but they freaked it.  I love the slow pacing of the song, and the vocoder… not autotune, but vocoder in the background.   No knock to autotune because some of the stuff does sound ok, but the vocoder as an instrument and tool sounds way better to me.  HEAVy is also great in that they compose and structure full songs.  There music takes you to different places throughout the composition, while most songs have become content with just looping the background music.  Nicky’s voice is simply perfect and when they perform Casey rocks a keytar, so… what’s not to love.

The song is another one of those “what the f$$$ happened” style relationship songs.  We seem to post a lot of those, but that seems to be the way love goes.
