Low- Belarus
‘belarus,’ a song by the minnesota-based band low, has been a favorite of mine since i heard it last year. i liked it so much that i paid it the ultimate compliment: i made it my ringtone. i discovered this song because i was a fan another ‘murder,’ a song about suicide bombers which also appears on the album ‘drums & guns.’ naturally, i went to youtube to see if i liked any of their other material. as it turns out, i didn’t, this song being the sole exception. when i heard this and saw the accompanying video, i was hooked. i must have played it four or five times in a row. mimi parker’s voice is gorgeous and her husband alan enhances it by providing a rougher counterpoint. the music over which they sing is deliate and soothing. all in all, it’s a gentle, enchanting song that i could easily listen to all day.
