Bat for Lashes- Horse and I

i’d heard of bat for lashes well before i actually heard their music. i’ve no recollection of where i head about them, but i distinctly remember why i decided to look into their music. thom yorke was asked who he liked to listen to at the time, and he said he liked ‘the wizard’ by bat for lashes. from what i’d gathered, thom and i share a similar musical sensibility, so his endorsement spurred me action (it also reminded me that i’d heard the name before and had intended to explore their music earlier). i’ll take this time to say thank you to mr. yorke, because i really enjoy ms. khan and co.’s music. i liked ‘the wizard’ but ‘what’s a girl to do?,’ ‘sarah,’ and this song actually sold me. i like how natasha and her bandmates incorporate the fantastic into their music. there’s a bit of playful fantasy in each of the songs i’ve heard. i hope they continue in that direction on future albums. let’s see if we can get a few songs about dragons (dragons are the height of bad assery).

Got woken in the night,
By a mystic golden light.
My head soaked in river water.
I had been dressed in a coat of armor. They called a horse out of the woodland.
“Take her there, through the desert shores.”
They sang to me, “This is yours to wear. You’re the chosen one, there’s no turning back now.”

The smell of redwood giants.
The banquet for the shadows.
Horse and I, we’re dancers in the dark.
Came upon the headdress.
It was gilded, dark and golden.
The children sang.
I was so afraid I took it to my head and prayed.
They sang to me, “This is yours to wear. You’re the chosen one, there’s no turning back.”
They sang to me, “This is yours to wear. You’re the chosen one, there’s no turning back.”

There is no turning back.
There is no turn.
There is no turning back.
There is no turn.
There is no turning back.
There is no turn.
