P.J. Harvey- The Mountain

i had reservations about purchasing white chalk. i bought it on faith and faith alone. i have been a p.j. harvey fan for a long time. she’s another artist, like bjork and thom yorke, who makes music i would make were i a musician. in the end, i bought  because of uh-huh her, and stories from the city, stories from the sea, and rid of me. my faith was rewarded on the first listen. it’s an album full of little gems like ‘the piano,’ ‘grow, grow, grow,’ and ‘silence.’

‘the mountain’ is a beautiful, haunting song. it’s amazing what she’s done with just her voice and a sparse piano melody. amazingly, the song conjures images that enhance the listening experiene. it’s a song i can easily listen to over and over again. i don’t know. maybe i like it as much as i do because i’m such a big fan. i do feel i’ve come to know something about her through her albums because she puts so much of herself into her music (p.j. is my homeboy…uh…girl). check it out and see for yourself. i hope you enjoy it.

Above the mountain
The mountain
An eagle
Is flying

High above the mountain
An eagle calling down
To the soldier who falters
The soldier on the ground

By the mountain
I feel nothing
For in my own heart
Every tree is broken

The first tree will not blossom
The second will not grow
The third is almost fallen
Since you betrayed me so

Since you
