A Place To Bury Strangers - My Weakness

When I downloaded Nine Inch Nails album The Slip from their official website, not a bad album, by the way, their was an option to download an additional album featuring bands that have opened for them during their tour. The album contained about five or six songs, each from a different band. Overall the mixtape was pretty good, having the usual mix of hits and misses. One of the bands that really stood out to me was A Place To Bury Strangers.

A Place To Bury Strangers can be best described as a conglomeration of My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, and Joy Division. The band has a tendency to be loud, really loud. In fact, they have been voted the loudest band in NYC. I saw them perform live one time at the Bowery Ballroom during CMJ. From what I heard, they were loud, but not as loud as I expected them to be, but I suspect having listened to four other rock bands in succession while standing right in front of the stage had something to do with it (needless to say, I had a headache for two days). Anyway, one of my favorite songs from their self-titled debut album is My Weakness. I’ll let the song speak for itself, since I lack the proper words to describe how badass it is.

I see you look around
You’re staring, staring out to sea
I feel them pulling down
You touch my hand, it all goes away
Don’t hear a single sound
But I feel your breath in front of me
With every kiss I drown
I feel my body fading to dreams

I don’t mind
And I don’t care
And I’ll do fine
I know you’re mine
I can’t believe I feel this way
I’ve got the spirit inside me
I know it can’t be, can’t be wrong
I know it keeps me

I see you look around
You’re staring, staring out to sea
I feel them pulling down
You touch my hand, it all goes away
Don’t hear a single sound
But I feel your breath in front of me
With every kiss I drown
I feel my body fading to dreams

I don’t mind
And I don’t care
And I’ll do fine
I know you’re mine
I can’t believe I feel this way
I’ve got the spirit inside me
I know it can’t be, can’t be wrong
I know it keeps me, keeps me strong
