Utada - Come Back To Me
Hmmmm…so I don’t know WHAT I was doing this morning when I stumbled onto Utada, but stumble I did. So much so in fact, that I decided to buy this song, preorder her album, and do a post within 4 hours of said stumble.
Utada is a New York born Japanese singer/songwriter/composer. From what I have read so far, she is about as big as they come in Japan. She has had five number 1 albums there and is only 26! Three of her albums are also on the all time best selling list there. The thing that really struck me while reading about Utada was that her first album was released in English but did staggeringly well in Japan. It has gone on to become the all time best selling album there. Translation in my mind: this chick MUST have it going on. So after a little more digging, I found this song.
It is the first single off her upcoming album This Is The One, her 2nd attempt to release an album in the US. Her 2004 effort was not very well promoted and did not sell well. Her voice is soulful (WAY more then I expected), the song is an easy listen, and definitely makes me curious to hear more. I’m eagerly awaiting my copy of the CD in May. I hope that it peaks your curiosity as well. Enjoy!
