Berlin- The Metro
berlin

like most people, the first song i heard by berlin was ‘take my breath away.’ while that song was great (for all the wrong reasons), the problem was i had no idea who sang the song (i guess my lack of interest in the song prolonged my ignorance a bit as well). it wasn’t until i watched berlin on bands reunited that i found out they performed that song, and they’d made other songs too. in fact, they’d made entire albums. who knew? well, during the show they played parts of this songs over and over again. i was drawn to it immediately. i really enjoyed the way terri nunn sounded as she sang over the driving synths. she was sexy and interesting. in other words, she was completely unlike the woman i heard sing ‘take my breath away.’ i still haven’t explored their discography, so i’m not sure if there are any gems hidden in there. but, they did make this one and i’m happy to share it with you.

I’m alone
sitting with my empty glass
my four walls
follow me through my past
I was on a Paris train
I emerged in London rain
and you were waiting there
swimming through apologies

I remember searching for the perfect words
I was hoping you might change your mind
I remember a soldier sleeping next to me
riding on the Metro

You wore white
smiling as you took my hand
so removed
we spoke of wintertime in France
minutes passed with shallow words
years have passed and still the hurt
I can see you now
smiling as I pulled away

I remember the letter wrinkled in my hand
“I’ll love you always” filled my eyes
I remember a night we walked along the Seine
riding on the Metro

I remember a feeling coming over me
the soldier turned, then looked away
I remember hating you for loving me
riding on the Metro

I’m alone
sitting with my BROKEN glass
my four walls
follow me through my past
I was on a Paris train
I emerged in London rain
and you were waiting there
swimming through apologies(sorry)

I remember searching for the perfect words
I was hoping you might change your mind
I remember a soldier sleeping next to me
riding on the Metro
