Yann Tiersen feat. Liz Fraser- Mary

i heard this song for the first time last night. let me see if i can remember my path toward discovery: (youtube searches and links) lisa hannigan => damien rice’s performance on abbey road => massive attack’s performance on abbey road => liz fraser => cocteau twins => tim buckley => jeff buckley & liz fraser => liz fraser & yann tiersen.
i learned several interesting things along the way. first, i learned liz fraser provided vocals on massive attack’s song ‘teardrop,’ a song i’ve long adored. second, i learned that liz fraser was the vocalist for the cocteau twins. amazingly, i never researched them to see who was actually in the band. i only listened to them. third, i discovered tim buckley and liz fraser had a relationship of some kind. fourth, i heard a wonderful song called ‘all flowers in time.’ finally, i learned that yann tierney composed the music for the movie amelie (yay!). i can’t wait to get this guy’s album.
i’m sharing this song not only because i like it, but because of the interesting things i learned on my way to and as a result of finding it. i hope you enjoy it, and i hope you’ll forgive me for the sound quality. it seems to have been poorly mixed (maybe it was done on purpose. i don’t know.)
Do you recognize me
Here on this sleeper train
And do you feel the pain
Growing into the night, Mary
And I can feel the taste
Of your third birthday cake
Remember how it was
To hold you into my arms, Mary
It wasn’t there
The summer lights around
I wasn’t there
His hand upon my knees
And we’re gone
Across this sunny streets
And we’re gone
The day you died, Mary
And we go faster now
Together throught the fields
Here on this sleeper train
And I can touch your face, Mary
The precious things we’ve done
Hidden under my skin
I let you sleep a while
I let you sleep a while, Mary
It was there
The summer lights around
I was there
His hand upon my knees
And we’re gone
Across this sunny streets
And we’re gone
The day you died, Mary
-the skinny miracle
