At The Drive-In - Hourglass

At The Drive-In, where should I begin…where should I begin…you’ve given us some great hardcore tunes to rock out to: One Armed Scissor, Rolodex Propaganda, Alpha Centauri, Non-Zero Possibility, and Sleepwalk Capsules. You’ve had artistic differences; separated. Omar and Cedric formed Mars Volta. The rest of you formed a band I still haven’t listened to. And now I’m sitting here, thinking about which song of yours I’m going to share, and I have to say I’m going to do the sleazy A & R thing and post one of your more commercially accessible songs. To At The Drive-In fans this is probably the equivalent of posting Guns-N-Roses’ November Rain for GNR fans. I had to do it. This is just a wonderfully enjoyable song about loneliness…or astronauts? I promise I’ll right my wrong and post a Mars Volta song with a 4 minute guitar/saxophone solo in the near future to make amends. Bless Bless.
Lyrics:
sucks me in, taking a ride
and i’m wishing for the satellite
grabbing vein pulling down on the radio
laughing at the face that’s bending down
i’m all alone so far up here
and my oxygen’s all gone
bend the metal
my glory box has failed
we’re rocking in our reclining chairs
drive away that car
that brought us all this harm
those are the pieces of my story line
i’m all alone so far up here
and my oxygen’s all gone
truly stressing realization
i wish i was an astronaut
eight hour bitterness all for whose sake
stain glass sunday school charades
