The Killers - Mr. Brightside

The Killers

Mr. Brightside is one of my all time favorite punk/rock/alternative songs of ALL TIME. Now, I realize that this is a pretty heavy statement, but what can I say? I love everything about this song. The music video is quirky and fun and features one of my favorite underrated badasses (Eric Roberts, estranged brother of Julia Roberts, star of the awesomely awesome Best of the Best film series). While the name Eric Roberts might not mean much to most of you, I am as much (or more) of a movie addict as I am a music addict. And Eric Roberts is one of my favorites. And he ain’t too shabby looking for a guy thats in his 50s either.

Aside from the fantastic music video (which you can watch here) that was released in the US, The Killers released a different version in the UK (which you can view here). This version, also dubbed the original version, is more of a performance video. Both are awesome but the funky brothel version will always have a special place in my heart.

This song is fun, energetic, different, and has a sweet ass guitar that just gives it that extra umphhh. I love the voice of lead singer Brandon Flowers - its a tiny bit electronic and distant - perfect for the feel of the song. Almost 4 years have passed since I first heard this song and it still gets me HYPE! I hope that you all enjoy it at least half as much as I do.

The Killers - Mr. Brightside

Coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss
It was only a kiss

Now I’m falling asleep
And she’s calling a cab
While he’s having a smoke
And she’s taking a drag
Now they’re going to bed
Now my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his chest now
He takes off her dress, now
Let me go

‘Cause I just can’t look
It’s killing me
And taking control

Jealousy
Turning saints into the sea
Turning through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
Cause I’m Mr. Brightside

I’m coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?
(It was only a kiss)
It was only a kiss

Now I’m falling asleep
And she’s calling a cab
While he’s having a smoke
And she’s taking a drag
Now they’re going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his chest now
He takes off her dress now
Let me go

‘Cause I just can’t look
It’s killing me
And taking control

Jealousy
Turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
Cause I’m Mr. Brightside

I never
I never
I never
I never
I never
