I Monster - Heaven

I can post I Monster songs all day. From Daydream In Blue , the beat behind Lupe Fiasco’s Daydreamin’, to Who Is She to A Sucker For Your Sound, which is the single off of their new album A Dense Swarm of Ancient Stars. As Ancient Stars makes it’s way to the crib, I’m reminded of my favorite I Monster track Heaven.
There’s a kid from my neighborhood whose cousin is Little Vic, an up-and-coming rapper from Long Island. I say up-and-coming rapper unwillingly because in NYC, if you’re not in a band, you’re probably a rapper or a DJ. Everyone and their mother is trying to push a demo of some sort. Vic’s not peddling rinky dink demos though. His CD Each Dawn I Die is critically acclaimed and was released through Fat Beats with production from DJ Premier, Buckwild, BIG KO, and a guest spot from Kool G Rap. I think it’s fair to say he’s surrounded himself with a decent crowd. Track ten on that CD is Sister Morphine. Produced by Sly-Vest, it samples I Monster’s Heaven and when I first heard it I thought it was an Edward Scissorhands sample. After a little investigation I felt dumb for not realizing where it came from. I’ve been meaning to post a Vic song but I wasn’t sure what I’m allowed to post. I’ll get that worked out soon enough but the I Monster track is melancholy awesomeness. Is it about having sex with a blow-up doll? Or, is it about getting the girl you always wanted only to realize the idea of her you’ve been holding onto isn’t who she actually is? I find that depending on my mood, I can appreciate both meanings equally.
Lyrics:
I look at you
And before my eyes it’s true
The girl of my dreams
Is not quite what she seems
Open your door
Turn on the light
Show me some more
Tell me it’s alright[Chorus 2x]
Heaven is inside you
Heaven when I ride you
Heaven do you want me
Is heaven just in my mind ?
I look at you
At everything you do
The words in your head
Still remain unsaid
Open you eyes
Inflatable girl
Lose the disguise
Release me from your spell[Chorus 2X]
