Evanescence - Good Enough

When I was in my early teens, Evanescence was the band I listened to the most. As silly as it may sound, I felt as if they defined me as a teenager. I played their album so many times that the CD would sometimes skip at certain songs. Needless to say, I also memorized every track. It wasn’t Evanescence style that appealed to me so much as their music (I can hardly be considered the “goth” type). I just loved how Amy Lee’s voice, the lead vocalist for the band, captured the emotion in the lyrics she sang, impressing me each and every time with its versatility and opera-like sound. I still listen to the band, but not so much today since they are currently on hiatus, and looking back on it, I am wondering what exactly made them so appealing to me. Maybe it was the rage of hormones that made me angsty, or the fresh cases of acne I kept getting, or watching my body change, but damnit I loved them.
Perhaps my favorite song from Evanescence (and they have quite a few, just check out their work before their official studio albums) is Good Enough. The song is actually written by Amy Lee herself, for her husband. It’s a touching song about finally feeling worthy because of someone’s love. Happiness this much doesn’t normally last long, but in the song Amy is willing to take that chance.
Under your spell again.
I can’t say no to you.
Crave my heart and it’s bleeding in your hand.
I can’t say no to you.
Shouldn’t let you torture me so sweetly.
Now I can’t let go of this dream.
I can’t breathe but I feel…
Good enough,
I feel good enough for you.
Drink up sweet decadence.
I can’t say no to you,
And I’ve completely lost myself, and I don’t mind.
I can’t say no to you.
Shouldn’t let you conquer me completely.
Now I can’t let go of this dream.
Can’t believe that I feel…
Good enough,
I feel good enough.
It’s been such a long time coming, but I feel good.
And I’m still waiting for the rain to fall.
Pour real life down on me.
‘Cause I can’t hold on to anything this good enough.
Am I good enough for you to love me too?
So take care what you ask of me,
‘cause I can’t say no.
