Esthero - Beautiful Lie
I came across Esthero, whose name is said to be a combination of the name of the heroine (Esther) and the last line (“If I am to be the hero, then I cannot fly from darkness.”) of the movie from Sylvia Plath’s novel, The Bell Jar, when I read an article on a music website that mentioned her providing the voice of the spaceship, Jane, on Kanye West’s tour. Since the article also stated that Esthero was a music artist, I decided to give her a listen and have pretty much been listening to her since.
Esthero originates from Startford, Ontario, Canada. Her music is quite eclectic, ranging from trip-hop and electronica, to R&B, pop, and jazz. She is one of those music artists who puts out an album every five years or so, which is irksome because she’s so good. Her versatility and plain talent makes her a true contender in the music industry and several artists has cited her as being influential on their music. Thankfully, Esthero has announced she is working on her third studio album, via myspace, so that’ll be something to look forward to in the coming time.
One of my favorite songs by Esthero is a Beautiful Lie, coming off her second album, Wikked Lil’ Grrrls. The song has Esthero singing about wanting to be in denial and not face the truth that the person she loves doesn’t love her anymore. It goes along with the “ignorance is bliss” theme. I just love Esthero’s voice in the track, which sounds sensual and genuine. It never fails to make me swoon. Enjoy.
