Cold - Sick of Man
I came across Cold when I saw their video for Stupid Girl, perhaps their most famous single up to date (the video can be found here). Something about them just told me that I would like their music, so I quickly bought one of their albums and became immediately hooked. Afterwards, I bought all of their other albums, not once disappointed. Cold, needless to say, has become one of my favorite rock bands to listen to.
Cold originates from Jacksonville, Florida and currently consist of five members. The band’s music can best be described as post-grunge. If you’re wondering what’s the difference between grunge and post-grunge, it’s almost the same except post-grunge is more commercial (more on post-grunge can be found here). Cold’s songs are often angst-filled and at times, depressing. Scotter Ward, lyricist and lead vocalist for the band, captures perfectly anger, confusion, and frustration. One of my favorite songs by Cold is Sick of Man, from their second studio album, 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage. The meaning of the song isn’t entirely clear, but it seems to be vaguely about being betrayed and abandoned by someone close to you. Enjoy.
Gave all the vampires back
To God that day
No one got raped here
But the pains still inside
I’ll never love you
But I’ve got words to say
No one betrayed here
But the memories lie
I said don’t go away
Turned off the lights and then you
Said please don’t follow me
And you cared
You stole my passion
Burned my everything
There all the same here
Locked up change deep inside
I’ll never love you
But I’ve got words to say
You killed the feeling
But the pain’s still alive
I said don’t go away
Turned off the lights and then you
Said please don’t follow me
And you cared
You kept your feelings hidden
Like a psycho
Burned it all down
Take me with you
Won’t you let me go
So sick of man
