Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up

Wow, does this video even need an introduction? Face it folks, you knew it was going to come up sooner or later, just thank goodness it’s the former. This song is pretty much timeless, mostly because of the video. I heard the song a while ago, but have only been exposed to the music video for it a few years back when VH1 did a special on music videos. I remember commentators giving background info and making jokes. One of them mentioned hearing Never Gonna Give You Up on the radio for the first time and loving the song. It became a huge hit in 87, when the song came out. The commentator said he was, along with everyone else, shocked when the video for Never Gonna Give You Up came out, revealing the singer behind the song because he was, along with many other people, under the impression that an African-American possessed such a soulful voice (a common misinterpretation). You don’t really have to be born in the 80s to find this video funny and the song catchy. There is something delightfully comical about watching Rick Astley, pale, tall, and red-head, shake his hips and sing his song in his inspector gadget beige trench coat. Combined with the blatant 80s atmosphere, insanely addictive rhythm, beat, and hook, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a hit. Consider yourself Rick Rolled.
