10 Years - Fault Line
10 Years is a rock band from Knoxville, Tennessee. I came across them when I saw their video for Wasteland (which can be found here). What drew me to them was Jesse Hasek’s voice, the lead vocalist for the band, and 10 Years impression of being a dark and angsty band (I tend to like bands that are thoughtful with their lyrics and intense with their sound). Funny thing is, most of my impressions were wrong about them. They aren’t really dark and they have a tendency to be rather moralistic in their songs, so much so that I suspect they are a Christian rock band (I read something somewhere about Jesse Hasek feeling hopeful because of his faith, but I don’t exactly remember where). This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something that helps explain their music. In some respects, 10 Years may be a band that either you dig or you don’t.
My song of choice today by 10 Years is Fault Line, coming off their third album (second with Jesse Hasek in the group), The Autumn Effect. I had a hard time choosing the song because The Autumn Effect is an album where each track sort of leads into the other. It really is an album that is best enjoyed listening straight through. Anyway, Fault Line, essentially, is a song about having to let go of someone, but it’s okay because it’ll only make you stronger as a person. “Don’t worry about me, the heart is suppose to bleed,” sings Jesse in the track, in other words saying we all must feel pain at some point. Enjoy.
I felt you cut free turning cold shoulders to me
Growing blame lines communicating lies
Nothing more to trust fallacies of love
Killing all that holds you
Bring me back to this what you said useless
Leave me I’ll shed my skin these scars will mend
Don’t worry about me the heart is supposed to bleed
Purity is drained
Help each other die
I see it, I see it in your eyes
Killing all that holds you
Bring me back to this what you said useless
Leave me I’ll shed my skin these scars will mend
Eyes twitch and lies itch of nervous
Eyes twitch and lies itch from a nervous ending
Innocence is ugly in the one who is guilty
Bring me back to this what you said useless
Leave me I’ll shed my skin these scars will mend
