Sia - Breathe Me

Sia, full name Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, is a pop singer hailing from Australia. I hesitate to call Sia a pop singer because she’s so versatile and her music tends to be very soulful. A better categorization of her music would be “pop-soul.” Just listen to her voice and you’ll see what I mean. It’s deeply touching and genuine, easily tugging at the listener’s heartstrings. Sia, despite having her own solo career, also contributes to Zero 7, a trip-hop/jazz group. The band is definitely worth listening to, particularly songs that features Sia.

One of my favorite songs from Sia is Breathe Me, coming off her fourth studio album, Colour The Small One. The song is about making mistakes and needing a friend to be there for you. The song is deeply touching, lyrically and musically, especially with Sia’s soulful vocals. She captures perfectly the fact that nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but despite this, we all need at least one person to help anchor us down and keep us is from straying away.

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there’s no-one else to blame

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me
