Human League - Don’t You Want Me

HL

This song is a standard selection for any reputable 80s party. It has everything you can ask of a quality 80s song - synthesizers, angst and catchy lyrics.

I was watching Center Stage for the first time a few nights ago and…I don’t know why but this song reminds me of the movie so much. Was it playing in the background of some scene? Or did I just really think it fit in?

Who knows? I like this song though so I decided to post it today! There’s also a really fun mash up floating around out there called Don’t You Want My Bad Romance featuring the Lady Gaga hit. Check it out here. Just goes to show you the 80s will NEVER go away!

Enjoy!

Human League - Don’t You Want Me

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you’ve got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don’t forget it’s me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

(Chorus:)
Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know I can’t believe it when I hear that you won’t see me
Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know I don’t believe you when you say that you don’t need me
It’s much too late to find
You think you’ve changed your mind
You’d better change it back or we will both be sorry

Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh
Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then I knew I’d find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we have had have been such good times
I still love you
But now I think it’s time I lived my life on my own
I guess it’s just what I must do

(Chorus)

Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh
Don’t you want me baby? Don’t you want me oh

(Repeat four times and fade)

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

FYC

This is one of those songs you run around singing to yourself when either:

(a) Someone is driving you crazy or
(b) You feeling yourself and say you driving someone crazy

My personal favorite is option B.

I drive him crazy…ooooh oooh….Like no one else…oooh…ooh….I drive him crazy and he can’t help himself…ooh ooh

So here’s to that giddy joy when you’re in one of those moods that makes you dance around your bedroom making up lyrics about how you’re driving some boy crazy : )

Enjoy!

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

I cant stop
The way I feel
Things you do
Dont seem real
Tell you what I got in mind
cause were runnin out of time
Wont you ever set me free?
This waitin rounds killin me

She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I cant help myself

I cant get
Any rest
People say
Im obsessed
Everything thats serious lasts
But to me theres no surprise
What I have, I knew was true
Things go wrong, they always do

She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I cant help myself

I wont make it,
On my own
No on likes,
To be alone

She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I cant help myself

Uh huh huh

She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I cant help myself

Uh huh huh

She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I cant help myself

Bonnie Tyler - Holdin’ Out For A Hero

Bonnie Tyler

I love the 80s. I love the clothes, hair and cars that were so awful they were great. I love the cheesy movies. And I DEFINITELY love the music. Footloose had one of the best soundtracks back then and it is still one that I listen to frequently now. Its just so much damn fun.

So…in honor of “I Love the 80s” I thought I’d add a few fun facts today.

Bonnie Tyler is Welsh and was born Gaynor Hopkins

Her distinctively husky voice is the result of her speaking against doctors orders while recovering from surgery on her vocal chords (listen to her single “Lost in France” and you’ll hear the difference)

Even though she is known in the US as an 80s singer, she has been quite active in Europe, releasing 15 albums from 1977 - 2005

Won Best Internation Female Artist at RSH Gold Awards in 1994

Record companies initially wanted to market her as a coutry singer

Madonna auditioned for the role of the preacher’s daughter in the film

That’s it for now. Enjoy!

Bonnie Tyler - Holdin’ Out For A Hero

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life (larger than life)

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night

Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear there is someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood

I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
