Yaw- Where Will You Be?

a good friend of mine put me onto this. be careful when you listen to this one. it might make you think about someone you’d prefer to forget. you might find yourself on your knees in the rain, crying your eyes out, and raging at the heavens. yes. you might become aaron hall. can’t say i didn’t warn you. the man can sang, though. enjoy (at your own risk!).

Babyface - Whip Appeal

babyface

Babyface was behind a lot of the great r&b of the 90s - TLC, Toni Braxton and Az Yet! LaFace records was pretty much synonymous with dopeness. He’s written for Whitney Houston, Boys II Men, Eric Clapton, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Celine Dion - I mean…you name it and musically he’s done it.

While I’m sure he’s gotten more attention for his romantic news in the last few years then his musical talent, this man is still a damn good musician. So here is a classic. Enjoy!

Babyface - Whip Appeal

Somebody told me
There’d be trouble at home
‘Cause we never talk a lot
When we spend time alone
So how are we supposed to know
Know when something is wrong
Well, we’ve got a right to communicate
It keeps a happy home

And no one does it like me
And no one but you
Has that kind of whip appeal on me

Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me
Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me

When we go to work
How the day seems so long
The only thing I think about
Can’t wait ‘til we get home
‘Cause we got a way of talking
And it’s better than words
It’s the strangest kind of relationship
Oh, but with us it always works

And no one does it like me
And no one but you
Has that kind of whip appeal on me

Whatever you want
It’s alright with me
‘Cause you’ve got that whip appeal
So work it on me
It’s better than love
Sweet as can be
You’ve got that whip appeal
So whip it on me

Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me
Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me

And no one does it like me
And no one but you
Has that kind of whip appeal on me

[HOOK 4 times]

Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me
Keep on whippin’ on me
Work it on me
Whip all your sweet sad lovin’ on me

Sade - No Ordinary Love

sade

Sade (pronounced /ʃɑːˈdeɪ/ shah-DAY) is a British band (yes band) that encompasses all that is awesome about Quiet Storm. When I think Quiet Storm I automatically think Anita Baker and Sade - smooth, soothing, soulful songs with understated melodies. Sade Adu’s voice is like butter - it washes over you thick and creamy and smooth.

I for one am very excited about her new album getting ready to come out sometime this year, the first in quite a few years. Details are pretty mum at the moment but everything I see has it slated for Fall 2009. As I wait in eager anticipation, this gem will hold me over for the time being. Enjoy!

Sade - No Ordinary Love

I gave you all the love I got
I gave you more than I could give
I gave you love
I gave you all that I have inside
And you took my love
You took my love

Didn’t I tell you
What I believe
Somebody say that
A love like that won’t last
Didn’t I give you
All that I’ve got to give baby

I gave you all the love I got
I gave you more than I could give
I gave you love
I gave you all that I have inside
And you took my love
You took my love

I keep crying
I keep trying for you
There’s nothing like you and I baby

This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love

When you came my way
You brightened every day
With your sweet smile

Didn’t I tell you
What I believe
Did somebody say that
A love like that won’t last
Didn’t I give you
All that I’ve got to give baby

This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love

I keep crying
I keep trying for you
There’s nothing like you and I baby

This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love

Keep trying for you
Keep crying for you
Keep flying for you
Keep flying I’m falling

I’m falling

Keep trying for you
Keep crying for you
Keep flying for you
Keep flying and I’m falling
and I’m falling

Bill Withers- Use Me

i didn’t need additional reasons to be a bill withers fan. i’ve been sold on him for years. i mean, i’m an old school guy at heart, and mr. withers personifies much of what i like about the music. well, tonight, a few minutes ago, actually, i found this video and it confirmed that this brother is a genius. this version of the song is a bit angrier than any i’ve heard before. i don’t know what brought it on, but the angst adds a nice edge. of course brother withers sounds great, the band sounds great, but the true star of the video is the drummer. you know he got plenty of action after this show. i want to be that guy. enjoy.

Anita Baker - I Apologize

Anita Baker

I love me some Anita Baker. I love her smooth, deep, sultry voice. There is nothing like sitting back in a big comfy chair, having  a glass of wine (or a cup of international house), and putting on a lil Anita Baker. Anita Baker is probably one of the reasons my family used to nickname me the grandmother - I’ve been rocking out to her since at least junior high. Rapture and Rhythm of Love are perhaps my two favorite Anita Baker albums.

To this day I Apologize is one of my favorite songs by Baker. You all know I love vulnerable songs and this is one of the best. This woman done f***ed up so bad, she’s not even talking to her man…she’s talking to the first person that will listen. If that isn’t desperation, I don’t know what is. Take a peek, and if you like it, check out Sweet Love, You Bring Me Joy or one of the other countless hits. Enjoy!

Anita Baker - I Apologize

Operator
Get my baby on the line
Just the other night
We had a horrible fight
I admit that I
I was out of control
But I still love my man
With my body and soul
When the road gets rough
You say things you should not say
I never meant
To treat my baby that way

~chorus~
I apologize
Oh, believe me I do
I apologize
Honest and true
Because I know I was wrong
So I sing you this song
And I’m tryin’ to get through
To make it up to you, yeah

Operator
It was like a bad dream
Lord, you should have heard
The way he shouted and the way that I screamed
I regret it cause I was unfair
I took it all out on him
Just because he was there
When the road gets rough
You say things you should not say
I never meant to treat my daddy that way

~repeat chorus~

I apologize
‘Cause I was unkind
And I wish that I could go back in time
Erase our goodbyes
And rewrite my lines
But come rain or come shine
I’m gonna do it right this time
I apologize
