Santigold- Hometown Glory (Adele Cover)

santigold

I hate reblogging songs. I really do. But as I scrolled the dashboard today, M-IN-E had posted this track. I gave it a listen (I had to - I love all things Adele) and can I just say….DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPENESS!!! This junk is fire and it is my duty to spread it to the masses.

So…thank you M-IN-E and I’m sorry for swinging on your jock strap so hard today. But uber-thanks for bringing my attention to this song. My love for Santigold has just grown like the Grinch’s heart…3 sizes in one day.

Enjoy!

Santigold- Hometown Glory (Adele Cover)

I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
And missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
“Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I could call?
No, and thank you, please madam, I ain’t lost, just wandering”

Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, ooh, the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders and now

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love it to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, ooh, the people I’ve met

Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders of my world
Of my world, yeah, of my world, of my world, yeah

Easy Star All Stars - Karma Police

Easy Star All Stars have done 3 sacreligious albums that should have sucked; however they are great and add a different flavor.  So when listening forget about originals and treat it like truly classic material that can be reinterpreted.  Radiodread was there second album, which is a cover of Radiohead’s Ok Computer.  The other two were Dub Side of the Moon and Easy Star’s Lonely Heart Dub Band.  It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to post from these 3 albums because I have favorites on each, but I decided to post Karma Police.  My favorite part of the song is just hearing the lead singer say “for a minute there, i lost myself.”  He could do that for another 20 minutes and I would be a-ok.

Karma Police, arrest this man, he talks in maths
He buzzes like a fridge, he’s like a detuned radio
Karma Police, arrest this girl, her hitler hairdo, is making me feel ill
And we have crashed her party
This is what you get, this is what you get
This is what you get, when you mess with us
Karma Police, I’ve given all I can, it’s not enough
I’ve given all I can, but we’re still on the payroll
This is what you get, this is what you get
This is what you get, when you mess with us
And for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
And for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
For a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself

Colin Hay - Overkill

This is the acoustic cover of Hay’s 1980’s hit with Men at Work. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. Can’t get it out of my head. Featured on an episode of Scrubs entitled “My Overkill” where Hay keeps popping up throughout the episode singing different clips of the song. Perfect montage that made the song even more stand out. Even if you don’t like Scrubs, you gotta admit - the song is pretty awesome. Much better then the original in my opinion…

A special thank you to HappyCap - I couldn’t find this version anywhere and the tumblr upload limit didn’t inspire to look any harder. Enjoy!

Colin Hay - Overkill

I can’t get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know I’ll be alright
Perhaps it’s just imagination

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It’s time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation

At least there’s pretty lights
And though there’s little variation
It nullifies the night from overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day

I can’t get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know I’ll be alright
It’s just overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away

Fiona Apple - When I Get Low, I Get High

I know I say a lot that this person is “one of my favorites” or this person is “one of the top music artists I listen to,” but Fiona Apple takes the cake as being my all time favorite, numero uno. I cannot express fully how much I love this woman and her music. If I was going away on a deserted island and had to choose only one music artist discography to take with me, it would be Fiona Apple. I dream of seeing her live and once I do, I can officially die content.

So, that being said, you can imagine my excitement when I came across this video on tumblr, originally posted by everybodycares. It’s Fiona Apple performing a cover of When I Get Low, I Get High, originally sung by Ella Fitzgerald, at a private party in New York City on January 24, 2009. I think this performance epitomizes everything that is Fiona Apple: passionate, driven, emotional, intense, mesmerizing, I can go on and on. The song fits her so well that I thought the it was originally by her. Anywho, watch this awesomeness and enjoy.
