Damien Rice feat. Lisa Hannigan- Rootless Tree

lisa hannigan and some guy.

edit: i’ve decided to add a second video. this is 9 crimes from the same performance. i can’t decide which of these songs i like more. i don’t think you can lose, really. they both have wonderful voices that complement each other. so, enjoy today’s double rainbow.

Little Dragon- Forever

yeah, it’s little dragon again. but since you can’t fight, there’s nothing you can do about it. tadow.

Motorhead- Ace of Spades

i didn’t know what to think when i decided to play this song for the first time. motorhead hadn’t exactly been on my radar. when i pressed play: instant happiness. i don’t remember how long ago that was, but i still feel the same way each time i play it. i’d be shocked to learn lemmy can still talk after singing this way for so long. it sounds like his larynx is about to fly out. gross. anyway, i think this is another great way to start the day.

If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man
You win some, lose some, it’s - all - the same to me
The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say
I don’t share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil,
Going with the flow, it’s all a game to me,
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you,
Double up or quit, double stakes or split,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

You know I’m born to lose, and gambling’s for fools,
But that’s the way I like it baby,
I don’t wanna live forever,
And don’t forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you’ve got to see me,
Read ‘em and weep, the dead man’s hand again,
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die,
The only thing you see, you know it’s gonna be,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Robyn- Dream On

go team sweden! this song is a bit out of character for me. it’s a little sugary. that isn’t a bad thing, but it’s something i typically don’t go for. add to that, i feel this is a song everyone but me has heard on the radio a billion times. i avoided posting it for a long time, but i can no longer resist. i’ve wanted to put it here since the moment i heard it. i can’t really say what it is i like about it. it’s one of those instances where i have to accept that i like it because i like it. i guess that’s enough for me. now that i’m putting it up, i feel good. it’s an uplifting song, so i hope it adds something bright to your day. enjoy.

Sliimy - Magic Game

Sliimy

Perhaps the greatest thing to happen to French electro-pop since…French electro-pro (???), Sliimy (rhymes with Jimmy) has blown up in France and the UK since the release of his debut album Paint Your Face. I didn’t know anything about him until last night when I read an article in an issue of The Advocate that had been sitting on my coffee table for a few months. They made several references to him and Prince (early Prince sound…awesome Prince-like hair…avant garde-ish) which meant I had to check him out.

So far…I’ve liked what I’ve heard but my two favorites as of today are this song and his cover of Womanizer. His CD was released stateside in September so you can pick it up here if you are so interested.

La la la la la la la. Enjoy!

Sliimy - Magic Game

you said i’m gay, but i’m cool
maybe anorexic, but look at you
you should taste my cupcake, it’s for you
cause mr Sliimy can kill you with some food
do you like to hurt me, yeah that’s cool
but when i’m crying, it’s not you
say thanks to the bottles for the tears cause maybe without drink you would never have tears
congratulations cause now i have a big inspiration guys

what kind of Magic Game can i play with you lalalala
i whisper ‘abracadabra’
listening time now
what kind of Magic Game can i play with you lalalala

shut up ‘abracadabra’
hang up and listen

they said you’re gay you’re harmful
i know you’re so rejected but look at you
you’re the only real smile that lights up this game
game, play the game and cast a spell
take a bit of kindness, but not too soon
add a bit of anger and shake up
you can mix and let’s see if they move
maybe with this drink you will just find peace
congratulations cause now i have a big inspiration guys

Jonsi- Boy Lilikoi

jonsi, the lead singer of sigur ros, will release a solo album in a month or so. this is the first single, boy lilikoi. other people who’ve heard it say it’s a departure from the music sigur ros usually  makes, and i would agree. but it isn’t so different as to feel foreign or strange. well, perhaps strange isn’t the right word. :) anyway, this song does have a much lighter and more directly optimistic tone than most of the songs he’s done with the band. i like it, though. i read he’s working with a producer who has done arrangements for other artists i like, so there’s an additional reason to check the album out when it’s released. i look forward to hearing it.

I want to be a lilikoi boy lilikoi
You grind your claws, you howl growl
Unafraid of all colour
You run, you’re free, you climb and dress trees
You reignite
You growl, you howl, you show your teeth
You bite, it’s alright

Say no more, use your eyes
The world goes and flutters by
Use your eyes, you’ll know you are
Use your eyes, the world goes and flutters by
Use your eyes, you’ll know you are

Why me, my boy, you burn so bright
Do you illuminate?
One day you’re out, you give up the fight
You slow down heart-rate

We all grow old, use your life
The world goes and flutters by
Use your life, you’ll know you are
Use your life, the world goes and flutters by
Use your life, you’ll know you are

Electricity wires are down
Rainbow colours fade into brown
I dreamt you were smiling, shifting for good
Courageous boy, now you are gone
And run past the years, no place to go
Your spirit is grand, so life goes on
You are
You are

I want to be a lilikoi-boy ooooh
You grind your claws, you howl, you growl
Unafraid of all colour

Electricity wires are down
Rainbow colours fade into brown
I dreamt you were smiling, shifting for good
Courageous boy, now you are gone
You run past the years, no place to go
Your spirit is grand, so life goes on
You are …
You are…

Newton Faulkner- Teardrop (acoustic Massive Attack cover)

i used to think i was cool because i knew this song. i can’t say why, but whatever. i was cool. i felt like i had a little secret in my collection. you heard of massive attack? no? awwwwwwwwww. i’m sorry you’re not hip. then…i forgot about the song. years pass, things change, etc. etc. imagine my surprise when i watched house for the first time. i was hurt! my little secret was out. ignore that it wasn’t a secret, and it wasn’t mine. but i was hurt! i’m over it now. or so i thought. the other night, i was perusing the web and ran into this video. the wound opened a little bit as i listened, but i made it through. i like it. i didn’t think i would, but i do. so, cheers to you, mate. you’re a good bloke. if only we could do something about that hair…

enjoy.

Slaraffenland- Open Your Eyes

nothing says holidays like slaraffenland. doesn’t that just roll off the tongue? i’m new to this band, so i don’t have too much to say. i wanted to share it as soon as i heard about them despite that (full disclosure: i posted this on my blog a little while ago, but, hey, i knew i was going to share it with you guys/gals, too. honest.). i really dig this. it’s almost like electronic tribal music or something. well, not tribal. hmmm. i’ll have to think about that for a while. as you can see, i don’t know how to describe it other than by saying it’s right up my alley. so, as always, i hope you enjoy this. and i hope your holiday season has been a pleasant one.

Madcon - Beggin

madcon

When I first heard this track it I tried to figure out what artist it was because I just knew as polished and well put together as it was, it couldn’t be some cats that were new on the scene. So I was right…kiiiinda. Madcon is new on the AMERICAN scene, but have been staples in Norway and Europe for years. Active since 1992, they’ve been making the Norwegians nod their heads since they caught a break in 2002. International hit Beggin, which was released in 2008, finally got distributed to us early this summer.

Gotta say…I’m excited to catch up on this group. They might have just given me some hip hop to actually look forward to. Enjoy!

Madcon - Beggin

[Tshawe Baqwa:]
Oooooh-
Put your loving hand out, baby
I’m beggin

Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

Ridin high, when I was king
Played it hard and fast, cause I had everything
Walked away, won me then
But easy come and easy go
And it would end

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam]

[Tshawe Baqwa:]
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam:]
I need you, (yeeah) to understand
Tried so hard
To be your man
The kind of man you want in the end
Only then can I begin to live again

[Tshawe Baqwa:]
An empty shell
I used to be
Shadow of my life
Was hangin over me

A broken man
Without a throne
Won’t even stand the devils dance
To win my soul

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam]

[Tshawe Baqwa:]
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam:]
I’m fighting hard
To hold my own
No, I just can’t make it
All alone

I’m holdin on
I can’t fall back
Now that big brass ring
Is a shade of black

[Tshawe Baqwa:]
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

Peter, Bjorn, & John- Nothing to Worry About

here is yet another great song from this trio (go team sweden!). i heard it one day while killing time in urban outfitters. in most cases, when music comes on in an establishment of virtually any kind, it’s time to put in the headphones, but i haven’t found that true in urban. i first heard the animal collective song i posted while shopping there as well. anyway, i heard this song, liked it, and like it still. that’s about it for this one. enjoy.

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about

Negative, why always so negative?
if you have problems,
why don’t you go solve them?
beat me up,
at least you won’t be out of touch
if you’re such a poet,
Loose your tongue and show it

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about

Trouble seems, trouble seems to follow you
it’s always round you
like some thing you subscribe to
Be prepared, there must be something in you
turning boys to men and then back again

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about
Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I’ve got nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about
(repeat)

Nothing to worry about
I’ve got nothing to worry about
(repeat)
