Mocky- Birds of a Feather

this is a fun little song. a little mellow, but still fun. something you can sing along with and snap your fingers to. the chorus is infectious. i first heard the song almost a month ago, and i haven’t stopped singing it yet. i hope it poisons you minds as it did mine.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - 40 Day Dream

truth be told, i was avoiding edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros because they looked like hippies. and usually, hippies = jam band. and i don’t generally dig the jam stuff. but the other day i was watching some npr video podcasts and i thought, what the hell, ill give em a shot. BAM! fan! these guys look like they just have some serious fun playing these songs. when there’s that many people on stage, i always feel like it closes the gap a little between audience and performer. like it’s just one big party. when these folks come through my town next, count me in. sadly, you can’t really hear all of the instruments in this video but hopefully it will lead you into getting the album. it’s a good time.

The Walkmen- Angela Surf City

i really like how this song swells into a bombastic chorus. that’s something that these guys do well. some of their best songs explode. and hamilton leithauser’s voice is a thing of beauty. so weary and torn. it’s almost as if he’s perpetually coming off a bender. enjoy.

Pac Div- Mayor

this song was one of many featured on my friends’ and my new year’s eve playlist- i liked it. it’s funny that i’d heard of pac div and even heard a few songs, but i missed this. check it out and see what you think. if nothing else, you should watch it long enough to see the ladies doing the little dance. great stuff.

Gauntlet Hair- Out, Don’t

so, your daily crack is two years old today. i’ve been here for most of that time and have enjoyed it. i want to express a big thank you to the blog’s creator and to all our current and former contributors for that and for their work here. if i could ask anything of you all today, it would be to check out our archives to see if you find anything you like. there are over 800 songs to listen to. i’ve said this before, but one of my favorite things is to see someone like or reblog something from more than a week ago. gives me the warm-and-fuzzies. anyway, hooray us.

now. about this song. gauntlet hair is a duo from colorado.  ‘out, don’t’ is a fun romp- it almost feels like a two year old running around chasing bubbles. what better way to celebrate our second birthday?
