Radiohead - Little By Little

this is definitely a record for me. bought, listened to and posted in the same day? miraculous. after the first pass through, this is my favorite so far. really nice to listen to with headphones, so as to hear what the guitars are doing. i can imagine that they mesh together well when listening through speakers so that they almost sound like one part. so it’s interesting to hear them separate. on a side note, i am pretty disappointed in only having 8 tracks on this ‘album’. what a rip. 4 years for 8 songs? i guess it’s better than zero.

Darwin Deez - Where’s The Chocolate?

i don’t much about this. other than that it’s from a mixtape that uses samples from the TRUE willy wonka movie. don’t get me started on that ‘other’ version. anyway, this song is pretty playful and fun. like candy. chewy shocktarts 4-eva!

Grendel - Remnants

so i felt like posting something industrial sounding and was going to go with some classic KMFDM, but then i got lazy and didn’t want to scroll all the way down the k’s. and i didn’t want to search either. i was that lazy. so here’s something from the g’s.

John Frusciante - Dark / Light

this is off frusciante’s ‘the empyrean’ album. most of the album sounds like the first 3 or so minutes. so to my surprise and delight, the second part of this song kinda comes out of nowhere. the bass line is just dynamite.

That 1 Guy & The Magic Pipe

i saw this guy live a long time ago and he was….interesting. i can’t say that i especially love the music he makes, but i really like the way he makes it. ‘the magic pipe’ is a pretty cool instrument. as far as i can tell it only has one string, a bunch of buttons to trigger samples and a multitude of pedals.  i searched for far too long trying to find a video that really showcased the pipe but i never found one that was satisfying. this is pretty close and it fits with some of skinny’s recent interview vids, so here you go.

The Dismemberment Plan - The Face Of The Earth

this is another one of those ‘now, how did i come to have this in my collection?’ pieces. in the end, i don’t really care as long as it’s good. and this is. i like how much ‘space’ there is in parts of this and how the guitar parts play in that space.

Dishwalla - Somewhere In The Middle

all of dishwalla’s albums are pretty different from each other. one’s a little funky, one’s pop-rock, one’s got a slightly harder edge.  this song is off their 3rd lp opaline. it’s a very quiet, soothing disc. i used to listen to it alot as i was going to sleep. it calms the nerves after a long day. this song could totally be at home in a hotel lobby playlist. not that that’s bad. i’ve heard some quality jams waiting to check in. i found a video for this song, but i didn’t like it so i didn’t post it. ya dig?

Raphael Saadiq - Sometimes

a friend gave me this album (the way i see it) recently and i just got around to listening to it. dynamite stuff. i’ve never really heard any saadiq before that i can recall, but i think i’m hooked now. im digging everything about this particular jam, the vocals, the lyrics, the instruments - especially the hi-hat sound. i LOVE the sound of a closing hi-hat when it’s put in a cool place. check it out.
