The Doobie Brothers - What a Fool Believes

this song is your god for the day.  if you refuse to like it will smite you.  michael mcdonald is a bearded wonder who also wrote one of the smoothest songs in history, ‘i keep forgettin’

‘what a fool believes’ is great because it’s a hell of a story.  the song is about a who is nostalgic about a past relationship.  however, he is simply a fool to think that he can have the relationship back.  the concept is simple but the writing is superb.  i spoke about this before, but i also love songs where the mood is a little opposite then what it is actually about.  it’s fun listening to a song that you love and then getting the epiphany/oh shit when you realize what the song is actually about because your so caught up in the music.

this song is also featured on our first podcast, enjoy

He came from somewhere back in her long ago,
the sentimental fool don’t see,
tryin’ hard to re-create what had yet to be created
once in her life.

She musters a smile for his nostalgic tale,
never coming near what he wanted to say,
only to realize it never really was.

She had a place in his life.
He never made her think twice.
As he rises to her apology,
anybody else would surely know
he’s watching her go.

But what a fool believes he sees,
no wise man has the power to reason away.
What seems to be is always better than nothing.
And nothing at all…

keeps sending him somewhere back in her long ago,
where he can still believe there’s a place in her life.
Someday, somehow, she will return.

She had a place in his life.
He never made her think twice.
As he rises to her apology,
anybody else would surely know
he’s watching her go.

But what a fool believes he sees,
no wise man has the power to reason away.
What seems to be is always better than nothing.

Love can come and love may go,
but why can’t love return once more?
Who’s got the power?

But what a fool believes he sees,
no wise man has the power to reason away.
What seems to be is always better than nothing.

I believe she’s never going away.

But what a fool believes he sees,
no wise man has the power to reason away.
What seems to be is always better than nothing.

Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Blue Sky

Electric Light Orchestra

This song is actually completely opposite from my current mood.  i’m worn the hell out and it’s only Tuesday.  Sitting in front of a computer all day and learning a new software system is no joke especially when you’re in a job where you are typically using your own personal creativity, social & counseling skills.  The 14 hour work days have been killer.  But, I’m honestly just happy that I am still working when everyday I hear more and more about how worse the economy is getting and look at the amount of people losing jobs.  However, today I am feeling pretty optimistic and that is not from a blind look at the stimulus plan that has been signed (which I need to read fully), but more from my own intuition.

Mr. Blue Sky is probably the happiest song you’ll ever hear in life.  It’s just so chipper, beatlesque, the type of lame i love, and perfect to me.  It captures you in a joyful mood regardless of what you’re feeling.  Enjoy

Sun is shinin’ in the sky
There ain’t a cloud in sight
It’s stopped rainin’
Everybody’s in a play
And don’t you know
It’s a beautiful new day

Runnin’ down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong

Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration
Mr. Blue Sky’s up there waitin’
And today is the day we’ve waited for

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong

Hey there Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you

Hey there Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you

Mr. Blue you did it right
But soon comes Mr. Night
Creepin’ over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I’ll remember you this way

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong

Hey there Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you

Lionel Richie - All Night Long

yea… so in case you didn’t know a lot of big things have happened in the us the past couple of days.  i’m probably the last person on tumblr making any sort of comment about all of this.  i actually had a good post planned out for King Day and the inaugration, but… i was out a little too much the past couple of days.  i’ll probably make those posts though sometime this weekend.

well now on to today’s song.  this is dedicated to Kanye West’s shag from the inaugural ball.  when i saw it on tv i immediately thought about one of my favorite Lionel Richie’s song.  most people think that i only love obscure and weird music, but i have a huge love for a lot of music that many think is lame, but one thing you’ll learn about me from this blog is i could give a rats ass.  all night long is the shit.  lionel richie’s fake ass jamaican accent makes this song a bbq/family reunion classic.  it’s just a fun song about celebration.  it reminds me a lot of election night as i saw people dancing in the street wildin out.  that sense of hope and optimism was everywhere.  now today things have gotten worse then they were, but i’m going to leave my pessism that has jaded my adult life due to the bush administration’s rule of my whole adult life and work my ass off and stay more optimistic.

Well, my friends, the time has come
To raise the roof and have some fun
Throw away the work to be done
Let the music play on
(play on, play on)
Everbody sing, everybody dance
Lose yourself in wild romance
Were going to party
Karamu, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing along!
Were going to party
Karamu, fiesta, forever
Come onand sing along!
Were going to party
Karamu, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing along!
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
People dancing all in the street
See the rhythm all in their feet
Life is good wild and sweet
Let the music play on
(play on, play on)
Feel it in your heart
And feel it in your soul
Let the music take control
Were going to party
Liming, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing my song!
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
Yeah, once you get started
You cant sit down
Come join the fun
Its a merry go round
Everyones dancing
Their troubles away
Come join our party
See how we play!
Oh, yes
Were going to have a party!
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long!
Everyone you meet
Theyre jamming in the street
All night long1
Yeah, I said, everyone you meet
Theyre jamming in the street
All night long!
Yeah, I said, everyone you meet
Theyre jamming in the street
All night long!
Feel good! feel good!
