Glee Cast - Sweet Caroline

Glee Cast

I am so obsessed with Glee. I watched the preview episode they had during the last season of So You Think You Can Dance and knew I was hooked.

The songs are well selected and catchy. EVERYONE on the show has great voices. The characters are all kooky and diverse and multidimensional. AND its a high school dramica at its finest.

Sweet Caroline was on an episode a few weeks back but its been stuck in my head the last few days. This one is sung by Puck (hot dude in the corner with the mohawk aka Mark Salling). It was one of those melt your heart television moments. And then a few minutes later it blew up! Ha! I love this show!!!

I already have the soundtrack and let me say I couldn’t be happier. If you haven’t seen the show, click here NOW. If you wanna see the clip this song is featured in, scroll to the bottom. I know you’ll enjoy it : )

Glee Cast - Sweet Caroline

Where it began, I can’t begin to know when
But then I know it’s growing strong
wasn’t the spring,
And spring became the summer
Who’d believe you’d come along

Hands, touching hands, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, sweet Caroline
Good times never seem so good
I’ve been inclined to believe it never would

Oh, sweet Caroline
Good times never seem so good
I’ve been inclined to believe it never would oooh oh no no..

Liza Minnelli - Maybe This Time

LM

Yo….Liza is cuh-razy. When her ex-husband came out and said she abused him I was practically on the floor in stitches. Not that spousal abuse is funny. But…its LIZA. The thought of Liza beating on someone is kiiiinda funny.

Back in her hayday tho, Liza was the ish. She was the it musical theatre chick. A recent episode of Glee featured this song being co-sung by mega MTR star Kristin Chenowitz and lead character Rachel (too lazy to look up her real name). And…can I just say - wow. AWESOME rendition.

So…for your musical theatre enjoyment, here’s Liza featuring the Cabaret fan favorite, Maybe This Time. Enjoy!

Liza Minnelli - Maybe This Time

Maybe this time, I’ll be lucky
Maybe this time, he’ll stay
Maybe this time
For the first time
Love won’t hurry away

He will hold me fast
I’ll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time
And the time before

Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me;
‘Lady Peaceful,’ ‘Lady Happy,’
That’s what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something’s bound to begin
It’s got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I’ll win

Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me;
‘Lady Peaceful,’ ‘Lady Happy,’
That’s what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something’s bound to begin
It’s got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time
Maybe this time I’ll win

Nikki Blonsky - I Can Hear the Bells

I watched Hairspray this weekend and had forgotten how much I love this song. Its so innocent without being annoyingly naive (I love the part where she says they won’t go all the way but they’ll go pretty far!). Nikki Blonsky’s voice is perfect for this song and role. Her voice is clear and light and has the innocence that Tracy Turnblad requires.

And can I just say…Zac Efron is totally adorable in the role as Link. It also doesn’t hurt any that the awesome Adam Shankman (So You Think You Can Dance judge) was the director and choreographer of this flick. Definitely one of my favorite film versions of a Broadway play. I’m always tickled when I watch it. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do!

Nikki Blonsky - I Can Hear the Bells

I can hear the bells, well don’t you hear ‘em chime? Can’t you feel my heart-beat keeping perfect time? And all because he…

Touched me,
He looked at me and stared yes he…

Bumped me,
My heart was unprepared when he…

Tapped me,
And knocked me off my feet, one little touch now my life’s complete ‘cause when he…

Nudged me,
Love put me in a fix yes it…

Hit me,
Just like a tonne of bricks, yes my heart burst now I know what life’s about, one little touch and love’s knocked me out
and…

I can hear the bells,
My head is spinning.
I can hear the bells,
Something’s beginning.
Everybody says that a girl who looks like me can’t win his love well just wait and see ‘cause…

I can hear the bells,
Just hear them chiming,
I can hear the bells,
My temperature’s climbing,
I can’t contain my joy ‘cause I’ve finally found the boy I’ve been missin’

LISTEN!
I can hear the bells.

Round 1,
He’ll ask me on a date, and then…

Round 2,
I’ll primp but won’t be late, because

Round 3,
When we kiss inside his car!
Won’t go all the way but I’ll go pretty fa-ar

Round 4,
He’ll ask me for my hand, and then…

Round 5,
We’ll book the wedding band, so by…

Round 6,
Amber, much to your suprise, this heavy-weight champion takes the prize and

I can hear the bells,
My ears are ringing,
I can hear the bells,
The brides-maids are singing,
Everybody says that a guy who’s such a gem, won’t look my way well the laughs on them ‘cause
I can hear the bells,
My father will smile,
I can hear the bells,
As he walks me down the isle,
My mother starts to cry but I can’t see ‘cause Link and I are french kissin’

LISTEN!
I can hear the bells.

I can hear the bells,
My head is reeling,
I can hear the bells,
I can’t stop the peeling,
Everybody warns that he won’t like what he’ll see but I know that he’ll look inside of me yeah…

I can hear the bells,
Today’s just the start ‘cause,
I can hear the bells and,
Till death do us part and,
Even when we die we’ll look down from up above remembering the night that we two fell in love, We both will shed a tear and
he’ll whisper as we’re romancin’

LISTEN!
I can hear the bells,
I can hear the bells,
I can hear the bells.

Jennifer Hudson - And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going

jhud

I, for shame, did not see Dreamgirls until early this year. I had my reasons- mostly being that I was annoyed Beyonce was in it. After being reassured that she had not ruined the film (she’s pretty much playing herself as one person said), I watched the movie and promptly became obsessed with the soundtrack.

JHud tears it up time and time again during the movie. Like…just…straight up rips it apart. I love the Jennifer Holliday version but I’ve never seen it context…and…seeing it in context definitely makes the song so much richer. For example - before I saw the movie, I thought the song was kiiiiiinda stalker psychoish (I’m not living without you. Really?!?! You’re GONNA love me. I’mma need you to get a grip girlie). But, in context, it is so appropriate. Its just…yea. It’s great. And moving. And desperate. And JHud tears it up. Don’t believe me - check out the scene from the film here and Jennifer Holliday singing it at the ‘82 Tonys here.

Ya’ll better be happy I can’t sing. I’d be belting this tune all the time.

Enjoy!

Jennifer Hudson - And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going

And I am telling you
I’m not going.
You’re the best man I’ll ever know.
There’s no way I can ever go.
No, no, no, no way,
No, no, no, no way I’m livin’ without you.
I’m not livin’ without you.
I don’t want to be free.
I’m stayin’,
I’m stayin’,
And you, and you, you’re gonna love me.
Ooh, you’re gonna love me.

And I am telling you
I’m not going,
Even though the rough times are showing.
There’s just no way,
There’s no way.
We’re part of the same place.
We’re part of the same time.
We both share the same blood.
We both have the same mind.
And time and time we have so much to share,
No, no, no,
No, no, no,
I’m not wakin’ up tomorrow mornin’
And findin’ that there’s nobody there.

Darling, there’s no way,
No, no, no, no way I’m livin’ without you.
I’m not livin’ without you.
You see, there’s just no way,
There’s no way.
Please don’t go
Away from me
Stay with me,stay with me
Stay, stay and hold me
Stay, stay and hold me
Oh please stay and hold me
miss me
Try and miss me
Try and miss me
Oh i know, i know, i know you care

Tear down the mountains,
Yell, scream and shout.
You can say what you want,
I’m not walkin’ out.
Stop all the rivers,
Push, strike, and kill.
I’m not gonna leave you,
There’s no way I will.

And I am telling you
I’m not going.
You’re the best man I’ll ever know.
There’s no way I could ever, ever go,
No, no, no, no way,
No, no, no, no way I’m livin’ without you.
Oh, I’m not livin’ without you,
I’m not livin’ without you.
I don’t wanna be free.

I’m stayin’,
I’m stayin’,
And you, and you, and you
You’re gonna love me.
Oh, yeah, you’re gonna love me,
Yes, you are, love me,
Ooh, ooh, ooh, love me,
Love me,
Love me,
Love me,
Love me.
You’re gonna love me.

Chicago - Cell Block Tango

If I could sing…and had long legs….and could dance - I would do the cell block tango for days. Like…I would prance around my apartment killing off a different guy each day of the week. My favorite of course is the “milkman” one. Hysterical.

I also just love how this song comes together in the film version. The leaky faucet…the foot steps on the grate - its just fantastic. So…for all of you who already know it…and for all of you discovering it for the first time- Enjoy!

No lyrics today. Translation of the Hungarian portion below (Thanks IMDB):

“What am I doing here? They say my famous tenant held down my husband and I chopped his head off. But it’s not true. I am innocent. I don’t know why Uncle Sam says I did it. I tried to explain at the police station but they didn’t understand.”
