John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

john & yoko

DAILY CRACK!!!! I’M BA-AAAACK.

While I’m still battling this month long bout of bronchitis, I am feeling much better today then I have in a while. And in my surge of feeling good I started watching one of the greatest movies ever - Mr. Holland’s Opus! oK I know what you’re thinking but give me a break, I love that movie. And of course my favorite scene is always when Richard Dreyfuss sings Beautiful Boy to his son Cole. It is FAN-TAS-TIC. Always makes me tear up.

So here is the original by John and Yoko. And if you wanna see the Richard Dreyfuss version check it out here.

Enjoy!

-Calidre

John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He’s on the run and your daddy’s here,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It’s getting better and better,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we’ll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it’s a long way to go,
But in the meantime,

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Darling,
Darling,
Darling Sean.

Prince - Adore

prince

Poor SkinnyMiracle - I left him all by his lonesome this week. So I had to come back strong with THE instant panty dropper! Yes…that’s right…

PAN-TY DROP-PER.

Prince is hands down my all time favorite artist. I’ve never posted anything of his before because I never wanted to choose just one. But you know what? In honor of V-Day and all that jazz, I’ll post the song that I think is the most romantic song of all time. Handle with care though…you are not to use this song in your wooing efforts lightly. This is heavy artillery. So sit back, relax and enjoy.

-CaliDre

Prince - Adore

Until the end of time
I’ll be there 4 U
U own my heart and mind
I truly adore U
If God one day struck me blind
Your Beauty I’ll still see
Love is 2 weak 2 define
Just what U mean 2 me
From the first moment I saw U
I knew U were the 1
That night I had 2 call U
I was rappin’ til the sun came up
Tellin’ U just how fine U look
In a word, U were sex
All of my cool attitude U took
My body was next
U made love 2 me
Like U was afraid
Was U afraid of me?
Was I the first?
Was I your every fantasy?
That’s why
Until the end of time
I’ll be there 4 U
U own my heart and mind
I truly adore U
If God 1 day struck me blind
Your beauty I’ll still see
Love is 2 weak 2 define
Just what U mean 2 me

When we be makin’ love
I only hear the sounds
Heavenly angels cryin’ up above
Tears of joy pourin’ down on us
They know we need each other
They know U are my fix
I know, U know that I ain’t cheatin baby
They know this is serious
This ain’t just for kicks, No
This condition I got is crucial
U could say that I’m a terminal case
U could burn up my clothes
Smash up my ride, well maybe not the ride
But I got 2 have your face
All up in the place
I’d like to think that I’m a man of exquisite taste
A hundred percent Italian silk, imported Egyptian lace
But nothin’ baby, I said nothin’ can compare
2 your lovely face (do U know what I’m sayin’ 2 U?)

I’m just tryin’ 2 say
That until, until the end of time

(ad lib)

I’ll be there 4 u

(ad lib)
Can I talk 2 U?
Tell U what U mean to me
Everytime U wander
I’ll be your eyes so U can see
I wanna show you things
That I never showed no other, I wanna be
More than your mother
More than your brother
I wanna be like no other
If U need me, I’ll never leave
I know, that U know, without U there is no me
There is no me
Without U there is no sea
There is no shore

Love is 2 weak 2 define how much I adore
U
The last words U hear

“Be with me darlin’ til the end of all time
I’ll give you my heart
I’ll give you my mind
I’ll give you my body
I’ll give you my time
4 all time I am with U

U are with me?

Eva Cassidy- Early Morning Rain

this a bob dylan cover which appeared on the album ‘imagine.’ it’s a song about home, more than anything. more specifically, it’s a song about not being able to get home. sometimes it’s like that. we all differ in how much we see or families. i haven’t seen mine in about a year. in our terms, that’s almost equivalent to a three- or four-year absence. whenever i speak to someone back home they try to guilt me into visiting. my grandmother, who is a delightfully feisty woman, becomes the most infirm and sad person you’ve ever met when it’s time for her to ask when i’ll be visiting again. it’s amazing. my mother is worse. she rarely asks, but it’s an implied question. she’ll sometimes tell me that someone else asked when i will visit. she’s a clever one. soon, mama. soon. enjoy.

In the early morning rain with a dollar in my hand
And an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand
I’m a long way from home and I miss my loved one so
In the early morning rain with nowhere to go.

Cut on runway number nine, big 707 set to go
I’m stuck here on the ground, where the cold winds blow
The liquor tasted good and the women all were fast
There she goes, my friend, she’s rolling down at last.

Hear the mighty engines roar, see the silver bird on high
She’s away and westward bound, far above the clouds she’ll fly
Where the morning rain don’t fall and the sun always shines
She’ll be flying over my home in about three hours time.

This old airport’s got me down, it’s no earthly good to me
Because I’m stuck here on the ground, cold and drunks as I might be
You can’t hop a jet plane like you can a freight train
So I’d best be on my way in the early morning rain.

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock And Roll

bob seger

CLASSIC!

Who doesn’t like this song?

***scans room as several hands are raised***

SHAME ON YOU. Go to the rock hall of fame and repent for your transgressions! This song is pure greatness and Seger’s muttonchops are fantastic to boot! So go ahead press play, bow your head in shame and do your penance. And then, enjoy.

-CaliDre

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock And Roll

Just take those old records off the shelf
I’ll sit and listen to ‘em by myself
Today’s music aln ‘t got the same soul
I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Don’t try to take me to a disco
You’ll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes I’ll be late for the door
I like that old time rock’n’ roll

Still like that old time rock’n’ roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Won’t go to hear them play a tango
I’d rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There’s only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock ‘n’ roll

Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I’m old-fashioned, say I’m over the hill
Today’ music ain’t got the same soul
I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Still like that old time rock’n’ roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock ‘n’ roll

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

law

I think that I might have gone a little crazy trying to figure this one out. Apparently Lee Ann Womack recorded two versions of this song - the original country version and another more poppy version. They even have different groups contributing background vocals. I was really confused when I found the version I wasn’t used to hearing.

So…I’m not sure which version this is but I still enjoy it. It’s really just a lovely song with some of the best lyrics of our generation. So I hope you enjoy and get a dance or two in.

-CaliDre

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake
But it’s worth making
Don’t let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

Witchdoctor feat. Cool Breeze- Georgia Plains (Holy Grounds)

this song was on the album ‘a s.w.a.t. healin’ ritual’ which came out in 1998. witchdoctor was and is a member of the dungeon family. he’s been featured on tracks with outkast, goodie mob, and others. he has a hilarious verse on the song ‘mamacita.’ in it he says:

in the microwave, i’ve got your favorite stouffer’s
lasagna
that’s how much i want ya

he also has had a few hits himself, the biggest of which was probably the song holiday (also on ‘s.w.a.t.’). they may have been more regional than national, but, suffice to say, he was a known figure in atlanta. this here is my favorite song on the album. it features another dungeon family hero, cool breeze. it’s a great combination. enjoy.

My choice was the streets, kinda came natural to me
So i’m fishin’, trouble comes
I’m dishin’ out some shots from the doctor’s gun
Got me trapped in this world under this moon and sun
Shit aint fun or funny, fuck a smile, i’ts ‘bout collectin’ money
I’m tryin’ to take better care of my body this quarter
Docter say drink more water, but Bacardi got you bent in this bitch
Life sometimes is like steppin’ in some fuckin’ horse shit
Seven years of tears in this game
Made me one of the smallest predators on this Georgia plain
In the fields, in the hills, never picked no cotton
It’s the nigga wit that golden trigga
I’m seein’ more planes in the sky at night
Look like UFO’s, think they transportin’ dem kilo’s
The drug cartel has swelled out of proportion
On the corner everyday we indorsin’
The street life is my life, scratchin’ to stay on top
I’m rappin’ it for my block, Atlanta

You betta have some game in yo’ veins
You betta learn this southern slang

Cool Breeze:
I’m hearin’ rumors about what yo’ clique gone do
I stepped up like it was cool and confronted his crew
I said “Now which one of y’al suppose to take me to school?”
If you see a lame nigga, nigga take his shoes
I’m from Eats Point, Atlanta, we dont fight by rules
You dont know Cool Breeze or lil Freddy Calhoun
In this place, the dirty south, we’ll hit ya for a lick
Sell you dreams, nice things, and it be a box of bricks
Most haters, imitators, think they know Cool Breeze
Aint jack but a rat on my East Point cheese
I know it iritates yo’ ears, how I chop these trees
You nothin’ but a lame ‘round these EPV’s
All my enemies who don’t know what they jumped in
If the doctor came through once, he’ll come through again
And when look and he ask me where everybody is
They didnt believe in your return so they ran for the hills
And I still got that same pain in my chest
My perscription stress, no cess, and wear a Teflon vest
And these niggas still try and test
Dont even know me or these Georgia plains
Boy these grounds are HOLYYYY!!!!!

Ben E. King - Stand By Me

ben e king

Happy birthday to meeeeeeeeeeeee!

Today marks the day I’ve roamed this fine green earth for a quarter of a century and I wanted to take some time out to give a shout out to all of the people who have stood by me over the years. None of us gets to where we are alone. It doesn’t matter who helped to get you there - parents, mentors, teachers or friends…we all have a little help.

So this is to all of my people - you know who you are. Thank you for standing by me. I look forward to many more years of all this fun!

Enjoy.

-CaliDre

Ben E. King - Stand By Me

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry, no I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you’re in trouble won’t you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin’, darlin’, stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

The White Stripes - In The Cold, Cold Night

white stripes

Little known fact for ya - Jack took Meg’s surname of White (to become Jack and Meg White) when they were married in 1996. And even though they divorced in 2000, it must of been amiable enough that they’ve been able to record 6 albums and garner 3 Grammys.

Unorthodox ain’t it? And that’s exactly why we love The White Stripes. Because they are unorthodox and make kick ass music. The longest they’ve ever taken to record an album is 3 weeks and generally it is recorded on equipment that is pre-1960s. I had a hard time deciding which song to post, so I decided to post one of their more underrated ones (in my humble opinion). Self-proclaimed shy girl Meg provides vocals on this track which doesn’t happen too often. She’d much rather sit in the background and pound her drums. Which works for the band. But I’m glad she came out of her shell a bit to record this song. It’s one of my favorites off of Elephant. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

-CaliDre

The White Stripes - In The Cold, Cold Night

I saw you standing in the corner
On the edge of a burning light
I saw you standing in the corner
Come to me again in the cold cold night

In the cold cold night

You make me feel a little older
Like a full grown women might.
But when you gonna grow colder

Come to me again in the cold cold night
In the cold cold night

I hear you walkin’ by my front door
I hear the creakin’ of the kitchen floor
I don’t care what other people say
I’m gonna love you anyway

Come to me again in the cold cold night
In the cold cold night

I can’t stand it any longer
I need the fuel to make my fire bight
So don’t fight it any longer

Come to me again in the cold cold night
In the cold cold night

And I know that you feel it too
When my skin turns into glue
You will know that it’s warm inside
And you’ll come run to me

In the cold cold night
In the cold cold night
In the cold cold night
In the cold cold night

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony- Foe tha Love of $

‘creepin’ on ah come up’ was such a great album. you had this song, ‘thuggish ruggish bone’ (and tashiaaaaaa!), and ‘down foe my thang.’ i could have chosen either of those other songs, but i went with this one because eazy-e. eazy wrote one of the greatest and worst verses ever recorded. the man was genius. i don’t know how he did it. the other group members expended all this energy spittin’ clever, rapid-fire rhymes while easy drunkenly stumbled onto the microphone and stole the show. ‘standin’ on the corner straight slaaangin’ rocks- awwwwwwwwwwwwwww shit! here comes the mothafuckin’ cops!’ how can you top that? answer: you can’t. don’ bother trying. just enjoy it.
