Escort - All Through the Night

i first posted the escort song ‘love in indigo’ what seems like forever ago when i first started the blog.  unfortunately, i still have not heard any new info about escort dropping a full length album.  i think i’ve been waiting for like 2 or 3 years now.  the video for ‘all through the night’ was my first exposure to this group.  there was basically no chance in hell that i would not love the group with a video like this and a disco-ed out song like this.  there’s something magical about seeing muppets sing the words “if you want to sex me…. i’ll give it up.”  Enjoy.

Black Eyed Peas f/ Macy Gray - Request Line

BEPMacy Gray

Sometimes I feel like I’m behind on life. And by that I simply mean that sometimes I get so caught up on work I get behind on all the fun things I like to do….like posting on Daily Crack, reading Savage Love, and watching the latest episodes of House & SVU.

So in the spirit of rewinding, I’m posting the jump off track that originally got me hooked on the Black Eyed Peas. Not the first song I heard, but the first song that I had to listen to over and over.

Before the days of Fergie, before the days of allegedly selling out (the hip hop heads know what I’m talking about), before the days of name recognition there were three dudes chillaxing in LA putting it down. Well…two dudes if you take it back to the 90s. Anywho…this is not to say I dislike “sellout” BEP - they’re still hype in my book. But it definitely isn’t the hip hop of yesteryear. They still got their own vibe, but its a little tamed down for that crossover appeal.

This is the Black Eyed Peas that I loved back in the day. Featuring the funky ass Macy Gray here is Request Line for your listening pleasure. And hey - if you got a request - be it a genre, an artist or an actual song…let us know. Cuz guess what - Daily Crack is here for you. Enjoy!

Dj Blaqstarr - Superstar (Tactic Remix)

i love baltimore club music.  i probably said this before on here, but growing up back in philly during the late 90s this is the what we would dance to.  when we would walk in the club (aka ymca, skating rinks, random schools, hotels, etc.) hip hop was played during the beginning of the party so you could check the scene out, plot on what girl you would dance with, and talk to your boys.  as it started getting later the dj would start playing the b-more club, house, dancehall, and bass music.  that was when we would wild out and start doing acrobatic moves.

i was pleased to see b-more club come back to the semi-mainstream or… a little bit in the hipster spots nationwide, but still i was finally able to hear some b-more music outside of the couple of philly dj’s that would sneak it in their sets down here in atlanta. mad decent has been doing their thing and diplo has proven to be an elite finder of talent especially with dj blaqstarr.  i love the song superstar and the subtle additions added by tactic on this remix.  enjoy…. oh yea i’m still mad as hell i missed WMC

Ghetto Flex f/ Denise Belfon - Wine and Bend Over

Ghetto FlexDenise Belfon

I’ve been thinking about posting this song for a long time and today felt like a good day to do it. I fell in love with Soca while listening to this song. Everytime I hear this song, I just can’t help but to drift off to another place. I start dancing at my desk, on the train, or whereever else I happen to be when it comes on. And don’t let it come on in a club - WOOOOO. This song is really just about dancing up on someone you’re feeling. Have you ever had one of those moments where you’re dancing with someone you are really feeling? You’re in sync, they’re moving in close and your senses seem to be heightened. If you’ve ever done this while dancing Soca, you were winding on them reaaaaal slow in an erotic ass preview of what it might be like later on.

Well…thats the place this song brings me to. I hear IT and instantly want to be dancing that slow wine with some beautiful man thats in sync with me.

Is it hot in here or is that just me?

At any rate, I didn’t feel like it was appropriate to post this song without doing a quick Carribean Music 101 lesson. There will be some readers that will glance right over this part and thats cool. But for the rest of you, listen up. All carribbean music is not Reggae! I repeat, not everything that you hear by a caribbean artist is Reggae! Reggae is a specific genre of music that started out in Jamaica and that has seperate qualities then the plethora of other genres that exist. Below is a short list of some popular genres, a quick description, and some artists you might know who are popular in said genre. The best way I can describe the principle is this though - if you have listened to rap and hip hop your whole life, you know that there are differences. You might not be able to convey them with someone has never heard the music before, but you know not every black man who doesn’t sing a song is a rapper.

Enjoy the song. If you wanna see the video (and some real winding if you’ve never been to a real carib party) then click here. Sorry - instead of lyrics today, I created a Caribbean Music 101 lesson. Instead of boring EVERYONE to death, you can click on the link if you’d like to learn about some of the various genres that are around right now.

Sylvester - Over and Over

This is hands down one of my favorite songs.  I first heard this while watching a documentary about larry levan, paradise garage, and the underground disco culture of the late 70s.  This song is just straight perfection.

The song was written and first recorded by Ashford & Simpson, but Sylvester turned it into a classic.  Let’s see…

Funky Bass Line… Check

People Wildin’ Out in the Studio… Check

Sylvester singing his ass off… Check

Dope horn section… Check

Disco strings in the back… Check

Guitar solo… Check

This song really could be a template about the type of music that can be created with freedom in the studio.  This is something you hardly see anymore in music today.  Artists don’t really just go in the studio and enjoy themselves.  Everything is about perfection trying to find perfect pitch, perfect timing, auto-tuning out any “mistakes,” everything.  Songs aren’t as natural anymore because technology has allowed producers and engineers so many options.  I would love to hear more songs with this type of freedom and fun.  This is a perfect song to go out and celebrate the end of 2008.  Enjoy

*RIP Sylvester, he passed about 20 years ago from AIDS.

De La Soul - A Roller Skating Jam Named “Saturdays”

It’s a beautiful winter saturday.  I am in a really good mood.  I went roller skating last night and felt the burn from my waist to my toes.  So a perfect day to play  a really fun de la soul track from ‘91.  This came out in the beautiful days of hip hop when know what really knew what to do with sampling laws.  So you’ll hear all types of random pieces throughout the track.   I’m not going to say too much about this track though, so go out and enjoy your saturday and here’s your theme song.  I’m going to do the same and get my ass off this computer.

Q-TIP:
Girl meets boy on Thursday night
Boy was high, girl fly like kite
They hold hands until next day
Boy then lets go, hit his way
Boy rules butt, brags to his boys
Erection brings bad boy joys
Boy thinks of that big fat back
Big black fat love, big black fat
Girl calls boy to stand him up on Saturday
Saturday

POS AND Q-TIP:
Saturday, it’s a Saturday
It’s a Saturday, it’s a Saturday
Saturday, it’s a Saturday
Saturday, it’s a Saturday

POS:
Back once more with the wallop in the score
Must I ride and rip, should I make you rock your hip
Reviver of a roller-boogie in a rink
And sure to make you think about the times
To scope fun instead of fights
(But diving from a piece of metal sure to take your life)
Yo, slip your butt to the fix of this mix
Toss that briefcase, it’s time to let loose
‘Cause you’ve worked like heck to get the week in check
So unfasten that noose around your neck
Connected like a vibe from the wheel to the foot
Come on everybody dig the funky output

VINIA:
Five days you work
One whole day to play
Come on everybody, wear your rollerskates today
It’s Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday-ay
(Is the word, is the word, is the word)

POS:
Now as you pump your fist I reminisce
To a bounce, rock, skate, roll
Fess to impress
Hey, pretty diamond, do you like the way I’m dressed
Cool, keep the faith and be my mate
‘Cause all we need is feet
(And rollerskates)
But promote the hustle ‘cause it keeps me thin
No need to talk, look who just walked in

DOVE:
(Is there a Dred on skates?)
Yes, man
(So kick the wham on this jam)
Oh Mr. Sprinkler, Mr. Sprinkler
Wet me for one, Mr. Sprinkler
I’m heatin’ high-five in a daze, no split
With a yawn I trip to the dawn
Out comes the bodies following the one idea
It’s clear, rattle to the roll
Hold back up the track, grab your rollerskates y’all
And let’s zip on by
Zip-a-de-doo-dah, let’s zip on by
Feed on a weed and we’re feeling high
Sun is on thick and the cheese is rollin’ quick
Come on, there’s no time to hide
Season is twist, spinning and winning
No hackeysack, let let me in
Spill on the bottom away, but it’s okay, huh
It’s a Saturday

POS:
Now let’s all get baked like Anita

Q-TIP:
Watch Mr. Lawnge, don’t look at the peter

DOVE:
Feel on the fun, I’ll feel on the

VINIA:
Hey, watch that!

DE LA SOUL:
It’s a Saturday

VINIA:
Now is the time
To act the fool tonight
Forget about your worries and you will be all right
It’s Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday
Saturday, it’s Saturday-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
(Aaoww)
