Prince - Adore

prince

Poor SkinnyMiracle - I left him all by his lonesome this week. So I had to come back strong with THE instant panty dropper! Yes…that’s right…

PAN-TY DROP-PER.

Prince is hands down my all time favorite artist. I’ve never posted anything of his before because I never wanted to choose just one. But you know what? In honor of V-Day and all that jazz, I’ll post the song that I think is the most romantic song of all time. Handle with care though…you are not to use this song in your wooing efforts lightly. This is heavy artillery. So sit back, relax and enjoy.

Prince - Adore

Until the end of time
I’ll be there 4 U
U own my heart and mind
I truly adore U
If God one day struck me blind
Your Beauty I’ll still see
Love is 2 weak 2 define
Just what U mean 2 me
From the first moment I saw U
I knew U were the 1
That night I had 2 call U
I was rappin’ til the sun came up
Tellin’ U just how fine U look
In a word, U were sex
All of my cool attitude U took
My body was next
U made love 2 me
Like U was afraid
Was U afraid of me?
Was I the first?
Was I your every fantasy?
That’s why
Until the end of time
I’ll be there 4 U
U own my heart and mind
I truly adore U
If God 1 day struck me blind
Your beauty I’ll still see
Love is 2 weak 2 define
Just what U mean 2 me

When we be makin’ love
I only hear the sounds
Heavenly angels cryin’ up above
Tears of joy pourin’ down on us
They know we need each other
They know U are my fix
I know, U know that I ain’t cheatin baby
They know this is serious
This ain’t just for kicks, No
This condition I got is crucial
U could say that I’m a terminal case
U could burn up my clothes
Smash up my ride, well maybe not the ride
But I got 2 have your face
All up in the place
I’d like to think that I’m a man of exquisite taste
A hundred percent Italian silk, imported Egyptian lace
But nothin’ baby, I said nothin’ can compare
2 your lovely face (do U know what I’m sayin’ 2 U?)

I’m just tryin’ 2 say
That until, until the end of time

(ad lib)

I’ll be there 4 u

(ad lib)
Can I talk 2 U?
Tell U what U mean to me
Everytime U wander
I’ll be your eyes so U can see
I wanna show you things
That I never showed no other, I wanna be
More than your mother
More than your brother
I wanna be like no other
If U need me, I’ll never leave
I know, that U know, without U there is no me
There is no me
Without U there is no sea
There is no shore

Love is 2 weak 2 define how much I adore
U
The last words U hear

“Be with me darlin’ til the end of all time
I’ll give you my heart
I’ll give you my mind
I’ll give you my body
I’ll give you my time
4 all time I am with U

U are with me?

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

law

I think that I might have gone a little crazy trying to figure this one out. Apparently Lee Ann Womack recorded two versions of this song - the original country version and another more poppy version. They even have different groups contributing background vocals. I was really confused when I found the version I wasn’t used to hearing.

So…I’m not sure which version this is but I still enjoy it. It’s really just a lovely song with some of the best lyrics of our generation. So I hope you enjoy and get a dance or two in.

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake
But it’s worth making
Don’t let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

Ben E. King - Stand By Me

ben e king

Happy birthday to meeeeeeeeeeeee!

Today marks the day I’ve roamed this fine green earth for a quarter of a century and I wanted to take some time out to give a shout out to all of the people who have stood by me over the years. None of us gets to where we are alone. It doesn’t matter who helped to get you there - parents, mentors, teachers or friends…we all have a little help.

So this is to all of my people - you know who you are. Thank you for standing by me. I look forward to many more years of all this fun!

Enjoy.

Ben E. King - Stand By Me

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry, no I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you’re in trouble won’t you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin’, darlin’, stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Bon Jovi - Livin’ On A Prayer

Yo…Bon Jovi has been around mad long. After over a quarter of a century in the business, their line up has remained pretty consistant with only one member ever being replaced. For me, that holds a special kind of sentiment (remember my Journey post?).

They have also managed to remain successful over the course of 10+ albums, with their 3rd album Slippery When Wet still holding the record for best selling hard rock album of all time. Slippery When Wet is of course the album that launched the mega group into super stardom and featured both this song and You Give Love a Bad Name.

So here’s to classic rock songs. The kind that you scream at the top of your lungs when it comes on in a bar and you’ve had one too many drinks. Those are the best kind : )

Enjoy!

Bon Jovi - Livin’ On A Prayer

Once upon a time not so long ago
Tommy used to work on the docks
Unions been on strike
Hes down on his luck…its tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day
Working for her man, she brings home her pay
For love - for love

She says we’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got
Cause it doesnt make a difference
If we make it or not
We’ve got each other and thats a lot
For love - we’ll give it a shot

Chorus:
Whoa, we’re half way there
Livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it - I swear
Livin’ on a prayer

Tommy’s got his six string in hock
Now he’s holding in what he used
To make it talk - so tough, its tough
Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night
Tommy whispers baby its okay, someday

We’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got
cause it doesn’t make a difference
If we make it or not
We’ve got each other and thats a lot
For love - we’ll give it a shot

Chorus

We’ve got to hold on ready or not
You live for the fight when its all that you’ve got

Journey - Don’t Stop Believin’

I had this awesome ranting post done about how Steve Perry is the voice of Journey and I refuse to watch them play with anyone else singing the songs that he made famous. Then tumblr logged me off.

Boooooooo.

So…to keep it short and sweet today, there are many Journey songs that I love but I couldn’t decide on one so I chose the crowd pleaser. I also wanted to play something upbeat so that contributed to the choice for today.

Everyone enjoy and happy Sunday!

Journey - Dont Stop Believin’

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Michael Jackson - She’s Out of My Life

MJ

In honor of MJ, DailyCrack will be posting 1 track every hour for the next 24 hours.

To start off the memorium track-fest, one of my all time favorite MJ tracks. Oddly appropriate song in memorium to an amazing if not troubled artist.

I hope you find peace on the other side MJ. You’ll always be the King of Pop to me.

-Calidre

Michael Jackson - She’s Out of My Life

She’s out of my life
She’s out of my life
And I don’t know whether to laugh or cry
I don’t know whether to live or die
And it cuts like a knife
She’s out of my life

It’s out of my hands
It’s out of my hands
To think for two years she was here
And I took her for granted I was so cavalier
Now the way that it stands
She’s out of my hands

So I’ve learned that love’s not possession
And I’ve learned that love won’t wait
Now I’ve learned that love needs expression
But I learned too late

She’s out of my life
She’s out of my life
Damned indecision and cursed pride
Kept my love for her locked deep inside
And it cuts like a knife
She’s out of my life

Elton John - Tiny Dancer

Elton John

Friday night I went out to the new local piano bar (yes…I go to piano bars) and made friends with one of the performers. And of course during the course of the evening, Tiny Dancer and all of its fabulous covers came up in conversation. Right there, I decided that this needed to be my next post.

I had a hard time deciding which of my favorite two versions to post - the original or the Tim McGraw cover? Well…for those who have never heard it before, here is the original in all of its glory. Yup - Sir Elton won this battle. Sorry Timmy.

Enjoy!

Elton John - Tiny Dancer

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Eagles - Hotel California

Eagles

Hotel California, one of the greatest rock songs of all times, is perhaps also one of the most confusing popular songs of all time. A song so badass, that it has its own Wikipedia Article. So, for your pleasure today, I bring you the song’s interpretation in band’s own words (courtesy of Wikipedia):

The song’s lyrics describe the title establishment as a luxury resort where “you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.” On the surface, the song tells the tale of a weary traveler who becomes trapped in a nightmarish luxury hotel that at first appeared inviting and tempting. The song is generally understood to be an allegory about hedonism and self-destruction in the Southern California music industry of the late 1970s; Don Henley called it “our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles” and later reiterated ” it’s basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about.” In 2008, Don Felder described the origins of the lyrics:

“Don Henley and Glenn wrote most of the words. All of us kind of drove into LA at night. Nobody was from California, and if you drive into LA at night… you can just see this glow on the horizon of lights, and the images that start running through your head of Hollywood and all the dreams that you have, and so it was kind of about that… what we started writing the song about. Coming into LA… and from that Life In The Fast Lane came out of it, and Wasted Time and a bunch of other songs.”:

Eagles - Hotel California

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
This could be heaven or this could be hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say…

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
Please bring me my wine
He said, we haven’t had that spirit here since 1969
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say…

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
Relax,said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Mariah Carey - My All

I came to know Mariah Carey because of my sister. She listened to Mariah heavily when she was in her teens and early twenties (still do today, but not as much), playing every song from various albums over and over and over again. It didn’t take long for the whole family, and maybe the residents above and below us, the music being so loud, to know that Mariah Carey was my sister’s favorite music artist. I really didn’t mind being forced to listen to Mariah, since I enjoyed her voice and she sang of things I was too young to understand, but knew I wanted to experience.

Fast forward to today and my sister’s taste in Mariah is still a part my own. There are few singers out there who can compete with Mariah in talent or success. She has sold over 200 million albums worldwide and possesses, no doubt, one of the greatest voices in the music industry, with the ability to cover a wide variety of vocal ranges (not so much today, since her voice has undergone some wear over the years). One of my favorite songs by her is My All. It’s a soulful ballad that has Mariah singing about her affections for someone and wanting to be with the one she loves. Enjoy.

Verse 1
I am thinking of you
In my sleepless solitude tonight
If it’s wrong to love you
Then my heart just won’t let me be right
cause I’ve drowned in you
And I won’t pull through
Without you by my side

Chorus
I’d give my all to have
Just one more night with you
I’d risk my life to feel
Your body next to mine
cause I can’t go on
Living in the memory of our song
I’d give my all for your love tonight

Verse 2
Baby can you feel me
Imagining I’m looking in your eyes
I can see you clearly
Vividly emblazoned in my mind
And yet you’re so far
Like a distant star
I’m wishing on tonight

Chorus 2X
I’d give my all to have
Just one more night with you
I’d risk my life to feel
Your body next to mine
cause I can’t go on
Living in the memory of our song
I’d give my all for your love tonight
