Jay-Z feat. Beanie Sigel- Ignorant Shit
a little preachy, but still good. these two have (had) great chemistry.

Schoolboy Q feat. Kendrick Lamar- Blessed
i thought for a long time about which schoolboy song i’d post. i picked this one because i love when you hear a song by someone who really makes you believe they’ve been through something. this song helps me feel connected to both artists, and that always makes for a better listening experience. whether the verses are true or not is inconsequential.

Gangsta Boo- Mask 2 My Face
i’ve been listening to this song a lot recently. i can already imagine sneak attack telling me how terrible my taste in hip hop can be at times, but i don’t care. gangsta boo is my peoples.

Action Bronson- Not Enough Words
the only rapper i know who could be on chopped. this guy is growing on me. i mean, he sounds too much like ghostface not to like. he’s doing his thing, though.

Rhymefest - Give It To Me
This video version is different than what’s on ‘fest’s album El Che. Lyrically anyway. i think i like this one better. and those cartoons are definitely a conversation starter. but i’m not gonna open up that can of worms on here. i’ll leave you to your own thoughts on that.

DJ Quik f/ AMG, Mausberg & Suga Free - Down Down Down

I’d be lying if I said that seeing DJ Quik in all of his permed out or cornrowed glory didn’t make me nostalgic for LA. I love me some Quik and whenever I’m home and can catch a concert you best believe I put seeing him on the agenda. Even the last time I saw him (2 years ago at the House of Blues) was like i was still in junior high and he was South Central royalty.
I know most of you east coast folk don’t have an appreciation for DJ Quik and all of his glory, but for those of you that do, or care to, here it is. Watch out for some classicly hysterical lines. My favorite - “we can make love but don’t forget to f*** me.” HA! Enjoy!

B.o.B f/ Hayley Williams (from Paramour) - Airplanes
I will be the first to admit that I don’t know much about hip-hop from the last decade. What can I say? I prefer my west coast classics of (2Pac, DJ Quik, Suga Free & Bone Thugs N Harmony) along with some other cats thrown in (Biggie, Eminem, Outkast, Black Rob, Mos Def, classic LL, Twista etc).
That said, B.o.B. is making me think that current hip hop perhaps ain’t so hopeless. (And don’t even come at me with Lil’ Wayne - he say some ignant ass shit that I am just not willing to listen to.) So, B.o.B, young master of dope duets and awesome lyrics, this one if for you. You might just be the first rap album I buy in quite some time.
Enjoy!
