today’s post focuses on romantic love. i really like this song. it’s a special song. it captures something i think i’d like my significant other to feel for me. it’s a protective love. it’s a love that is a haven from the many trials we face every day. relationships are much more complex than that, and there are many ways to love someone, but there’s something very appealing about the love described here in this song. but again, today is about more than that. today is for all the lovers and all the loved. enjoy.

Blink 182 - I Miss You

Blink182 is one of the greatest garage rock bands of all time. Not only did they put together some high quality music (as evidenced in this song) but they were also fun and silly and could make you laugh. And believe me, that is just as important as the high brow stuff. Dysentery Gary and The Party Song still make me laugh after all of these years. Sometimes I get a little bit tired of everyone trying to say something (and failing a lot of the time) and just want to put on something that’s fun. So here’s to fun. WHAT?!?! If that’s not the truth about how a lot of relationships end, I don’t know what is. This is one of my favorite songs off of one of my favorite albums. Mad Season has stayed on steady rotation for almost a decade in my house and its not going anywhere. If you have the album, dust it off and pop it in your stereo (or search it on your itunes) and give it a listen. If you don’t have it, check it out.

The White Stripes - In The Cold, Cold Night

Little known fact for ya - Jack took Meg’s surname of White (to become Jack and Meg White) when they were married in 1996. And even though they divorced in 2000, it must of been amiable enough that they’ve been able to record 6 albums and garner 3 Grammys.

Unorthodox ain’t it? And that’s exactly why we love The White Stripes. Because they are unorthodox and make kick ass music. The longest they’ve ever taken to record an album is 3 weeks and generally it is recorded on equipment that is pre-1960s. I had a hard time deciding which song to post, so I decided to post one of their more underrated ones (in my humble opinion). Self-proclaimed shy girl Meg provides vocals on this track which doesn’t happen too often. She’d much rather sit in the background and pound her drums. Which works for the band. But I’m glad she came out of her shell a bit to record this song. It’s one of my favorites off of Elephant. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Maxwell - Bad Habits

I’ve always been a huge Maxwell fan but I think BLACKsummer’s Night has been his easiest album to fall in love with. I’m not saying that its better or more well put together or more mature then any of his previous efforts, but it is definitely easier to connect with.

Maxwell is pretty much one of the first neo-soul artists that came out but his earlier stuff was sometimes just a tad out of reach (at least for me). It was complex and wonderful to listen to but it was art as much as it was anything else. BLACKsummer’s Night…well…there’s just a visceral reaction to this album. He said he was inspired to create the album from his last romance and who can’t relate to everything that goes down in a relationship? Kudos to Mr. Maxwell for an AMAZING album. Go out and get it now if you don’t already have it.

Oh - and just one request.

Mr. Maxwell - If you ever read this…please make your concert tickets cheaper so I can actually afford to go see you one of these days. Because I would really love to see you preform. I think you’re awesome. And hot. And I aint mad at those glasses in the picture - I think they’re sexy ; )
