God Lives Underwater- Weaken

GLU is one of those bands that helped changed my ideas about ‘rock music’ in my younger years. sure, i listened to groups that had keyboards but none of them were using keys likes these guys. such cool sounds in every song. it blew me away. the doors had been opened. i still vow to get a nord someday. they probably have a better song than ‘weaken’ that i could have posted, but i really enjoy the instrumental part at the end. those high notes always make me think of rockets for some reason.

Deftones- Diamond Eyes

this song has been known to give me goosebumps. there, i said it. i guess it’s a listener’s high. everything just falls in the right places for me with this one. it’s good to see the ol’ deftones are still releasing relevant stuff. there’s always the fear that as an artist gets older they will lose the magic that drew you in, but it seems these fellas aren’t tapped out yet. the video is included because i noticed that frank delgado (dj/keys) is playing a nord lead. ultra-cool synth.

the song is good, but the video takes it to another level. i suggest you don’t watch it at work. it’s a bit intense.

Wild Beasts- We Still Got the Taste Dancin’ on Our Tongues

i cannot say enough about how much i enjoy this album. i posted two of their songs elsewhere prior to buying the album, but my appreciation for them was nothing compared to what it has become. i planned to wait until i got home to post ‘this is our lot’, but i couldn’t wait. please check these guys out.

Violent Kin - Velvet Hideout

Still combing through many tracks from SXSW and ran into this gem. Part of the Western Canadian Artists, Violent Kin has a really cool sound that almost makes it sound like it could be a soundtrack segment for True Blood, or another conquest type of movie, this track really brings out the essence of any day. It has a raw feeling to it with a mixture between rock, blues, electric, it’s sure to hit an interest in you. You can find out more about them at the links below.

i didn’t know what to think when i decided to play this song for the first time. motorhead hadn’t exactly been on my radar. when i pressed play: instant happiness. i don’t remember how long ago that was, but i still feel the same way each time i play it. i’d be shocked to learn lemmy can still talk after singing this way for so long. it sounds like his larynx is about to fly out. gross. anyway, i think this is another great way to start the day.

Blink 182 - I Miss You

Blink182 is one of the greatest garage rock bands of all time. Not only did they put together some high quality music (as evidenced in this song) but they were also fun and silly and could make you laugh. And believe me, that is just as important as the high brow stuff. Dysentery Gary and The Party Song still make me laugh after all of these years. Sometimes I get a little bit tired of everyone trying to say something (and failing a lot of the time) and just want to put on something that’s fun. So here’s to fun. It’s Friday – go out and take off your shirts and shoes and jackets and enjoy!
