Kanye West - Addiction (Violator Dub) [THE OFFICIAL HOUSE REMIX]

I haven’t posted any house music in a while.  Addiction was one of those songs that you hear and you’re like this would be a perfect house track.  The original is just made for the dancefloor.  Then lo and behold two house remixes came out.  Addiction is also a good introspective song going into the new year, the good old resolution time.  So enjoy yourself and dance away.

Sa-Ra Creative Partners v. Medeski, Martin, + Wood - Midnight Birds

This is a throwback to 2005, when Sa-Ra first started getting some buzz.  There’s a land of demos tracks and remixes all from that time period.  This is one of my favorites, it really captures there futuristic sound utilizing all types of synths.  Not too much to say on this one, but… enjoy.

Kenny Loggins - This is It

One youtube commenter said it best “This real meaning of the song comes out in this version. It’s about a man deciding if he should battle for his life. So I think sounds better this way. More dramatic than an 80’s dance song.”  I don’t necessarily think it sounds better, but different and I like it.  Like I said before i’ve been in a yacht rock state of mind.  So enjoy the slow version, which rubs a little cheese off of it.

Company Flow - Fire In Which You Burn

welcome to 1997, welcome to soundbombing.  i used to let this song knock out of my mom’s camry and my dad’s nissan when i got my license back in my backpacker days driving down to tla in philly for concert.  raw hip hop, simple beat and some crazy indian sounding stuff in the background.  don’t bust your laptop speakers, plug in a subwoofer.

Erykah Badu - I Want You (live)

Hands down one of my favorite songs and favorite performance videos.  Erykah kills it.  She  jumps on the bells and the drum pads, dances, and has great interaction with ehr band and the audience.  Erykah is the queen, i don’t really know the queen of what, but she’s one of my queens in music.  I’ll never stop being a fan, which is why it’s killing me that new amerykah part 2 and the “before music dies” project with get this, questlove, wendy and lisa, and jazzy jeff.

Beastie Boys - Hey Ladies

Paul’s Boutique is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time.  I pulled it back out after putting together a screening for the PBS documentary Copyright Criminals.  The documentary discusses the history of sampling laws and how they have changed music production forever.  Point blank there will never be another Paul’s Boutique released commercially.  The doc also interviews Clyde Stubblefield aka “The Funky Drummer”, James Brown’s drummer, who recorded one of the most sample riffs of all time.  Check this link to see how many songs have sampled it.  The shocking thing is Clyde has not received any money for his work.  Clyde was a session musician so even though he was creating in the studio he was paid for his time in the studio not any future use.

Beastie Boys song Hey Ladies is a great example of creative sample use.  It’s far from simply taking a couple second loop and adding drums.  It is a musical collage.  Below are some of the sample sources.

Sampling laws are used and there use should be brought up for discussion.  There are strong arguments for both sides, what are your thoughts?

Rich Kidz - Patna Dem (Mad Decent Patna’s remix by DJA)

living in atlanta provides you with a continuous onslaught of hood rap.  some makes it out of the city, some gets stuck as atl one hit classics.  patna dem came out earlier this year and took over.  i’ve been here for almost 10 years and i still need translation for some of the stuff these kids say.

flashback: i remember when souljah boi first came out.  i was watching tv one’s roots marathon.  i got up to go get some food and uncharacteristically decided to turn on the radio.  when i heard the lyrics “soljah boi up in des do wa me crank dat wa me do, why me yooooouu… why me yoooooou…” i became upset that kizzy, kunta, and dem were speaking better english then atlanta teens.

anyway back to patna dem, i still don’t quite understand the song, they shout out a lot of different neighborhoods then start shouting out other stuff such as “true religion” so who knows.  this remix though makes the song for me, hood and electronic.  also ironically is done by artists in the two places i call home, atl and philly.  if you enjoy this go get the FREE ATL Remix album from Adult Swim

Elmore Judd - Kinky (live)

this is a throwback for me, another buried treasure on my hard drive.  i completely forgot about this track and some of the other stuff they had (due to a hard drive crash) matter of fact i never even went and picked up this album.  i really enjoy this performance the song is a little stalkerish, but hey when you’re getting kinky it be’s like that sometimes.

disclaimer: dailycrack will not bail you out of jail for stalking

Low Budget - Smooth Holiday

So i’ve been in a yacht rock state of mind.  Enjoying the smooth sounds of Michael McDonald and Hall & Oates.  I’m dying to get to a karaoke bar and go in, my Michael McDonald voice is the sound that will delight babies and cougars.  Low Budget is one of the producers for Spank Rock.  If you don’t know get familiar, Spank Rock doesn’t get the credit that he deserves.  Low Budget put this mix out a year or 2 back on his board.  The mix is fire and starts off with the ultimate in cheese Paul McCartney’s - Wonderful Christmas Time.  Check the tracklisting and enjoy.

Easy Star All Stars - Karma Police

Easy Star All Stars have done 3 sacreligious albums that should have sucked; however they are great and add a different flavor.  So when listening forget about originals and treat it like truly classic material that can be reinterpreted.  Radiodread was there second album, which is a cover of Radiohead’s Ok Computer.  The other two were Dub Side of the Moon and Easy Star’s Lonely Heart Dub Band.  It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to post from these 3 albums because I have favorites on each, but I decided to post Karma Police.  My favorite part of the song is just hearing the lead singer say “for a minute there, i lost myself.”  He could do that for another 20 minutes and I would be a-ok.

Karma Police, arrest this man, he talks in maths
He buzzes like a fridge, he’s like a detuned radio
Karma Police, arrest this girl, her hitler hairdo, is making me feel ill
And we have crashed her party
This is what you get, this is what you get
This is what you get, when you mess with us
Karma Police, I’ve given all I can, it’s not enough
I’ve given all I can, but we’re still on the payroll
This is what you get, this is what you get
This is what you get, when you mess with us
And for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
And for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
For a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
