Jeff Buckley- Everybody Here Wants You

last year i posted a list of love songs featured here on the blog. the year before, i posted a song about a specific kind of romantic love that greatly appeals to me (very emo of me). this post is all about sensuality. tonight, after all the candy and the whatnots, put this song on and prepare for freakin’. i’ll probably be watching chopped or something. …i don’t need your pity. happy valentine’s day.

Slick Mahony- Go Grab My Belt

i first saw this months ago, but i still find myself singing it from time to time; and it always makes me laugh. it’s hard for me to decide if i like this or ‘let me smang it’ more. i think slick might have won it by a nose- not sure. but it’s a win-win situation.

8ball & MJG- Space-Age Pimpin’

‘i’d be obliged if you step outside…’

a friend of mine and i ran across this song last night in a random youtube video. we excited searched for and listed to (and sang along with) the full song. it was fun to listen to the song because, for me at least, it is so closely connected to my childhood. i think i said this in a previous ball&g post, but these i listened to these guys as much as anyone else when i was younger. and this song was a favorite of mine. when i posted ‘coming out hard,’ i told myself i wouldn’t post this, but our overly-dramatic performance was so much fun, i had to put this up. you’d have thought we were performing at esso or kaya or 112.* goin’ in!

*i don’t remember if you could perform at any of those places. they were beguiling mysteries to me as a kid, and anathemas once i was old enough to go.

Norman Connors- You are My Starship

i find myself singing this song a lot. i really like it. it has a little stank on it. a little “ooooo weee.” ain’t nothing like some old school lovin’. i imagine this song can draw out the cassanova in all of us. dim the lights a bit, throw this on, and let the magic happen. enjoy.

Larenz Tate

Larenz Tate - Brother to the Night (A Blues for Nina)

This is perhaps one of the most well known spoken word pieces out there and for good reason. Never did someone make trying to be a home wrecker sound so good! Larenz Tate pretty much put himself on the urban drool list with Love Jones and this song was his grand Opus.

I hope you all enjoy this track as much as I still do.

Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - Jelly, Jelly

Oh this is one jazzy ass song! This is a song that makes me imagine I’m in a dark smokey Harlem jazz club dancing so slowly and sensually that it hurts. And you know where that scene in the movie leads…

WHOOOO

Did it just get hot in here? If you’re ever in NY, make it a point to check out the Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center. Def a talented group and worth every penny.

Enjoy this take on the Duke Ellington classic with Milt Grayson on vocals!

Lisa Shaw- Tomorrow

i don’t know what it is with me lately, but i’ve wanted to smooth things out a bit. thus i’ve decided to post this song. it probably isn’t the most accurate description, but i’ll call this one sade lite. it’s a relaxing, jazzy little number that goes down easy. real sexy like. look at her being all sassy in that picture. oooo, girl. you better watch yourself! this is a song that my uncle would dance to. in fact, i think most people in my family over 40 would automatically start dancing to this. i’m going to try that out. :)

enjoy.

Robin Thicke- Vengas Conmigo

this was my introduction to robin thicke. this and another song called ‘make a baby.’ i never heard more than those two songs, oh, and ‘when i get you alone,’ so you can imagine my surprise when i heard his more recent material. it seemed he’d not only changed his look, but he changed his sound, among other things. i don’t know enough about the thicke era to compare it to the robin thicke era beyond that. he still makes pretty good music, so who’s complaining? that’s why i picked this song, more than anything. i like it, and i think it’s cool to acknowledge that the guy’s been around a while and has done good work. enjoy.
