Demae Wodu- Rolling in the Deep (Adele cover)
i have no idea if demae wodu is a professional musician or not, but i really dig this cover. i also like her cover of little dragon’s ‘scribbled paper.’ check her out and see what you think.

Mocky- Birds of a Feather
this is a fun little song. a little mellow, but still fun. something you can sing along with and snap your fingers to. the chorus is infectious. i first heard the song almost a month ago, and i haven’t stopped singing it yet. i hope it poisons you minds as it did mine.

Zero 7 feat. Jose Gonzalez- Futures
this is a mellow little gem. of course, that’s what mr. gonzalez is famous for, right? while he does turn i a wonderful vocal performance, zero 7’s production really sets the song apart. at turns, wistful. somber in others. the closing builds to an energetic and satisfying conclusion. as always, i hope you like it. enjoy.

Elis Regina & Antonio Carlos Jobim- Samba de Uma Nota So
mellow song by a vocalist i am a huge fan of. elis regina has a great voice that imbues her songs with life. that isn’t so much in evidence in this one, but you can click here to listen to ‘roda’, a good example of what i mean. or listen to aguas de marco. all good stuff.

Youn Sun Nah- Uncertain Weather
this artist reminds me a bit of my brightest diamond. ms. nah is more of a jazz singer, but both women’s voices are full of power and emotion. if you like this, be sure to check her out. she’s got seven or so albums for you to peruse. enjoy.

8ball & MJG- Space-Age Pimpin’
‘i’d be obliged if you step outside…’
a friend of mine and i ran across this song last night in a random youtube video. we excited searched for and listed to (and sang along with) the full song. it was fun to listen to the song because, for me at least, it is so closely connected to my childhood. i think i said this in a previous ball&g post, but these i listened to these guys as much as anyone else when i was younger. and this song was a favorite of mine. when i posted ‘coming out hard,’ i told myself i wouldn’t post this, but our overly-dramatic performance was so much fun, i had to put this up. you’d have thought we were performing at esso or kaya or 112.* goin’ in!

*i don’t remember if you could perform at any of those places. they were beguiling mysteries to me as a kid, and anathemas once i was old enough to go.
Devin the Dude- Doobie Ashtray
i’ve never had anyone steal weed from me, but i too devin’s advice and imagined how i’d feel if someone did. i got mad. i don’t understand how he can be so relaxed when singing about such a trying situation! don’t they know how much that stuff costs?? and where’s my 40 oz?? someone needs to call the national guard or something! i admire his equanimity. if i were to sing this song, it would sound more like pantera than this. enjoy.

William DeVaughan- Be Thankful for what You’ve Got
this is some classic old school here. and it’s wonderful recession music (har har)! anyway, there is a wonderful message mixed in with that extraordinary melody. it’s nice to sit back and reflect on the things you’ve done and the things you have instead of focusing so much on where you’d like to be and what you want to get. so, since the song is like seven minutes long, why not use that time to look at your journey and to look at your place in life as the culmination of years of experiences (good and bad)? hopefully, you’ll be thankful for and proud of how far you’ve come and the little (or lot, for you ballers out there) you’ve got.
