Lianne La Havas- No Room for Doubt
if i saw her give me a come hither look from the other side of a raging river, i’m pretty sure i’d suddenly find i could walk on water.

Dusty Springfield & Mireille Mathieu- The Look of Love
a wonderful duet performed on the burt bacharach show in the 1970s.

Los Zafiros- He Venido
i think i’m growing more fond of this type of music. it hasn’t always been my cup of tea. now, i get a sense of nostalgia that i shouldn’t feel when i listen to it seeing that i wasn’t alive during the doo-wop period. it’s nice. i’m probably less than two years away from buying the doo-wop box-sets from pbs.

Zero 7 feat. Jose Gonzalez- Futures
this is a mellow little gem. of course, that’s what mr. gonzalez is famous for, right? while he does turn i a wonderful vocal performance, zero 7’s production really sets the song apart. at turns, wistful. somber in others. the closing builds to an energetic and satisfying conclusion. as always, i hope you like it. enjoy.

Elis Regina & Antonio Carlos Jobim- Samba de Uma Nota So
mellow song by a vocalist i am a huge fan of. elis regina has a great voice that imbues her songs with life. that isn’t so much in evidence in this one, but you can click here to listen to ‘roda’, a good example of what i mean. or listen to aguas de marco. all good stuff.

Joanna Newsom- 81

Nicole Miglis- Bridges & Balloons
this is a quiet little cover of a joanna newsom song. initially i wasn’t sold on it, but then a little magic began to happen at 1:42. it also helped that i listened to the original song and a few other covers. ms. miglis’ version rose in my estimation after that. i moved from “yeah, that’s nice” to “i can dig that.” it has had a lot of replay value as well. i’ve listened to it several times over the last few days. now, the interesting thing is, she sent us this song in hopes that it’d be featured, but i actually prefer another of her songs, ‘we are not the kings.’ i hope you all will click her name, it links to her myspace page, and check it out.
